It was easy to imagine.
A family that could raise such an ungrateful, heartless creature—how could they be good people?
Qi Sui nodded and could only say, "I'll consider it."
Qi Sui paid first.
The smiling male intern said in a clear voice:
"Hello, that'll be 367 yuan. Please scan the code here."
The barista behind shouted, "Xiao Xiang, clean up the back table."
So the male intern put on another sweet smile, waited for Qi Sui to pay, then hurried to wipe down the table.
Qi Sui finished organizing the day's materials, picked up her things, and returned to her workstation.
The third-floor department had a mix of people with different shift times. By the time she sat down, some were already packing up to clock out.
Guan Guan, sitting behind her, turned around and asked curiously:
"Sui Sui, did you take leave?"
Qi Sui replied while putting documents back in place, "No. Didn't Engineer Song assign me an International Department project earlier? I needed to do a site visit, so I went to check it out."
"Oh, I see." Guan Guan leaned in and whispered, "Your desk phone rang this afternoon. I answered it. It was extension 7459. If I remember correctly, that's the number for the 19th floor, right?"
Qi Sui whispered back, "Yeah, that's the former VP LEO. This project goes through him."
"Okay, as long as nothing's wrong."
Guan Guan's tone carried a strange inflection:
"Because you're not too proactive at work, Sui Sui. I thought you were going to be fired. When I picked up the phone, I was thinking of making excuses for you. Since that's the case, I'm relieved."
Her face wore a teasing smile, but Qi Sui didn't feel any relief.
Guan Guan was a year younger than her, but she had joined the company right after college and was considered a semi-veteran. Qi Sui didn't exactly respect her on a daily basis, but at least they kept out of each other's way.
Qi Sui paused in organizing the files. After a moment, she softly retorted:
"Guan Guan, you should stop asking me to fill in leave slips for you. Otherwise, it's hard for me to explain to the supervisor."
Guan Guan froze, then hummed softly, her emotions unreadable.
Qi Sui didn't care. Unlike others in the office, she had no connections, nor was she negligent in her work. She just wasn't aggressive or outstanding, but that didn't mean she didn't work seriously. Otherwise, Engineer Song wouldn't have trusted her with these scattered documents.
As soon as it was time to leave, she immediately stood up and walked out of the office, clocked out at the entrance, and turned away without a word, as always.
Someone walked over to Guan Guan and patted her shoulder, asking:
"Guan Guan, why aren't you off work yet?"
Guan Guan was still smiling. "I had a compensatory leave last month. I'm making up the hours now."
"That's new. I've never seen you take compensatory leave. Alright, I'm heading off."
…
Qi Sui returned home. Qian Jin hadn't clocked out yet.
Perfect.
She dug out all of Qian Jin's clothes and toiletries, stuffed them haphazardly into a bag, and threw it by the door.
She didn't even bother to call him. She casually tore off a sticky note, left a message telling him to grab his bag and get out.
She ordered takeout, sat on the sofa, and found a furniture store online. She directly bought a new security door and arranged for workers to come the next day to replace it. Not only did she replace the entire door, but she also changed the fingerprint lock and password lock to new ones.
Selina's words had reminded her. At least in her eyes, Qian Jin wasn't a man of spine. Before he could regret it, she had to make sure he couldn't regret it. That was what Qi Sui thought she should do most.
As for what else Selina had said…
Qi Sui pursed her lips, remembering LEO's face, his half-closed eyes and dazed pupils. She felt she must be crazy.
On the one hand, she didn't think she was that charming. But on the other hand, LEO's behavior was also very strange.
Qi Sui stood in front of the mirror, repeatedly examining her fair, thin face. To be honest, it was a very good-looking face. In fact, in her memory of college days, Qi Sui never lacked suitors.
Qi Sui was very different in college.
She was more individualistic, more assertive, with her own opinions and views on life. But after graduation, as a married woman, she was forced into this world line that didn't belong to her, and her entire personality was worn down.
The woman in the mirror touched her own eye corners. The lines were few and smooth, her cheeks had a touch of color. No matter how she looked, she was still a woman in her prime.
It was impossible that no one loved her.
Qi Sui's wish was very ordinary, very plain.
She wanted to stay away from Qian Jin, wanted to live her own life well. Most importantly, she wanted someone to love her.
Sincerely, honestly, clearly love her.
That was hard.
Qi Sui sighed and sprawled onto the soft sofa.
In the kitchen, the pink cat and blue bear lunchboxes sat side by side, chatting softly.
A curse.
So, men are a curse!
Author's note:

Men are a curse! Especially you, LEO. What were you scheming in the break room? Come clean!
Hehe, I'm late (kneels down).
If I don't update before 11, then it's not happening.
Here's something funny: Yesterday was the ranking update, and my editor contacted me, asking me to change the blurb. I asked if I had to. She said it was okay not to, but it might get reported… ughhhh, so I gave in.
