Chapter 20: Suddenly Reasonable

Jiang Yuntan said with a grin, "Of course not. I just said that. Don't take it to heart."

But inside, she was thinking: In the later stages, you really are the living Yama that everyone fears, aren't you? It's just that you still have some conscience now. She wouldn't be stupid enough to say that to Shen Hegui's face.

Shen Hegui gave a helpless smile and asked, "You collected so much just now. Your space should be full by now, right?"

"Not yet," Jiang Yuntan said frankly.

"Huh?" Shen Hegui was a bit puzzled, and even Xue Zhao glanced back at her. She had just run through so many stores, but now she said it wasn't full.

"I reorganized the stuff we got from the supermarket and the fifth floor and freed up two cubic meters. And there are gaps between items, right? I stuffed the jewelry and watches into those gaps, so they don't take up extra space."

Shen Hegui: ...

Xue Zhao: ...

That actually made sense.

Shen Hegui remarked casually, "You're becoming quite thrifty now."

Jiang Yuntan rolled her eyes. "I don't want to suffer, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid, okay?"

Shen Hegui's stern face softened into a smile. "Yeah, you're not stupid."

"We're going to the pharmacy soon. Can you free up half a cubic meter for us to store things?" Shen Hegui asked in a negotiating tone. He estimated she had taken quite a lot from the supermarket and the clothing area on the fifth floor, so the five cubic meters she had temporarily allocated for the team were probably already used up.

Jiang Yuntan lifted her chin proudly. "For indulging my antics just now, I'll give you the remaining two cubic meters."

"No, I'll keep only half a cubic meter and give the rest to you."

"Good," Shen Hegui agreed immediately, afraid she would change her mind. It seemed she knew that her earlier trip to grab watches was a bit reckless—she had a clear self-awareness. And now that she had gotten what she wanted, she was settling down. That was fine.

Xue Zhao, who was driving, couldn't help but smile at their conversation. Admittedly, grabbing gold and watches was a bit troublesome, but it wasn't that bad. Besides, those things weren't completely useless—watches could tell time, and gold could be traded for something later. Most importantly, they had found a few blowtorches, which could be great weapons if used well.

As the car drove on, Jiang Yuntan noticed that the zombies on the street were increasing visibly. In the buildings they passed, many people were peeking out of windows, as if checking the situation outside. Some cautious people had taken the chance to scavenge for supplies. She saw quite a few people running around with bags. Some weren't fast enough or didn't pay attention to their Environment and got bitten by zombies that suddenly appeared from elsewhere. The lucky ones managed to escape; the unlucky ones were eaten alive.

Jiang Yuntan watched in silence, feeling grateful that she had a golden finger. Even though it could only serve as storage for now and hadn't brought her any powerful weapons, it was still a great help.

Shen Hegui saw her staring out without speaking and thought she was scared. He said, "If it's hard to watch, don't look. There's nothing we can do—everyone has their fate."

"Mm, I'm fine," Jiang Yuntan replied quietly. She had come to accept it. After all, she couldn't go back. And in her original world, she had no family, so there wasn't much to hold onto.

But at that moment, she called out Jin Bao in her mind and asked, "Do you know why I came to this world?"

Jin Bao answered immediately, "How would I know? I don't know you before you awakened me."

Jiang Yuntan sighed helplessly. "Huh, and you call yourself a super powerful system. You don't even know this."

Jin Bao said darkly, "Hehe, didn't you die from staying up late? Who's to blame?"

"Jin Bao, you've changed. Now you talk to me with sarcasm."

"What can I do? I learned it all from my boss."

Jiang Yuntan: ...

Still, this life wasn't so bad. She had a strong backer, so safety was guaranteed for now. She could experience the thrill of zero-cost shopping, taking whatever she wanted without worrying about price. Most importantly, she didn't have to be a wage slave anymore and could trade with people from different dimensions. Life was quite colorful.

She quickly comforted herself.

Meanwhile, their car stopped in front of a large pharmacy with a sign reading "24-Hour Pharmacy." Jiang Yuntan scanned the place and saw six or seven zombies wandering inside.

But the most urgent problem was the swarm of zombies rushing toward them after they parked. The street seemed to be near a night market, so many people had been there eating late-night snacks when the apocalypse broke out. Because of the crowd, many turned into zombies.

Shen Hegui and Xue Zhao got out in the usual manner and immediately started fighting.

Jiang Yuntan looked at the at least twenty zombies outside and stayed in the car. She had awakened speed enhancement, but she was still fragile. She wondered if she could awaken another power or connect with a higher-level dimension, like the interstellar dimension, to exchange for a laser gun or something. Jin Bao had mentioned a cultivation dimension—maybe she could exchange for some pills to boost her strength.

Seeing that she didn't rashly get out, Shen Hegui focused on dealing with the zombies.

But after clearing one wave, another wave approached from nearby.

Shen Hegui frowned and shouted, "Half of you stay here to fight the zombies, and the other half go into the pharmacy to grab the medicine. Make it quick." After all, their top priority was getting medicine, not killing zombies.

They quickly divided into teams. Shen Hegui, Xue Zhao, and Lin Xuan stayed outside to fight zombies, while Yu Ke and Jiang Yufeng led the four women inside to collect medicine and clear the pharmacy.

Just as they finished dealing with the zombies inside, the door to the small storage room opened, revealing a couple. The man was a bit chubby, and the woman looked several years younger than him.

Seeing Jiang Yuntan and the others packing things, the man said confidently, "This pharmacy is mine. You can't take my things. If you want to take my medicine, you must guarantee our safety and provide us with good food and drink." His voice unconsciously weakened as he spoke. Over the past two days, they had thought about running out but couldn't bring themselves to open the storage room door when they saw the man-eating monsters. Now, they had finally found people who could save them.
