Chapter 17 (Next Chapter Goes VIP) (2)

Song Huaizhi was taken aback by his words. Something felt off about Ye Yansheng—why did it seem like he was feeling proud on behalf of his own child? He looked up at Zhou Shanli, who also put on his sleep mask to sleep, leaving Song Huaizhi ignored.

Seeing that no one was paying attention to him, he was about to rest too when Ye Yansheng suddenly spoke.

"Professor Nie is also coming this time. She arrived a day earlier than us. The reason you were able to participate in this academic discussion is thanks to Professor Nie. Last time you assisted in her surgery, she thought you were impressive and intends to mentor you. She specifically asked me to bring you along. After we land, you should thank her properly."

Zhou Shanli turned his head toward the window, barely suppressing a grin.

Song Huaizhi: "..." He absolutely did not want to see Professor Nie at all. That woman was even more terrifying than Ye Yansheng.

Nie Yizhi was an extremely rigorous female doctor in the medical field. She was thirty-five this year, three years older than Song Huaizhi. Sometimes Song Huaizhi even wondered—if Nie Yizhi wasn't already married, and she kept appearing in front of him so frequently, he might have thought she was interested in him. But of course, he only entertained that thought. He was not worthy of such an outstanding woman. Thinking that way felt like a desecration of Nie Yizhi, because she truly was exceptional, and he admired her.

He stopped dwelling on it, closed his eyes, and fell into a deep sleep, taking advantage of the chance to rest while he still could.

After hanging up the call, Song Guanyu was holding a pen in one hand and a guitar in the other, composing the melody for a song she had written yesterday.

Her teacher, Liang Kang'an, called and told her to come to the U.S.

Without any hesitation toward her teacher, Song Guanyu agreed, immediately called Lu Chunhe, packed her bags, and booked a late-night flight. Since it was a private trip, it wasn't made public.

She had intended to send Ye Yansheng a message, but suddenly she wanted to surprise him, so she decided not to tell him that she would also be going to the U.S.

That evening, Song Guanyu, along with Lu Chunhe, flew to the U.S. late at night. When they arrived in the U.S., her teacher's son, Liang Jiasong, came to pick them up.

He had arrived early and was waiting for Song Guanyu.

As soon as Song Guanyu came out of the VIP channel, she immediately saw Liang Jiasong leaning against the car, wearing a Chinese-style suit. His eyes and brows were cold, giving off a distant vibe. The Bentley was parked right by the VIP exit.

It had been a long time since she had last seen Liang Jiasong. Song Guanyu jogged over, took off her face mask, and said with a smile, "Jiasong! Long time no see!"

Liang Jiasong turned at the sound of her voice. Seeing Song Guanyu smiling with slightly parted lips, the ice between his brows suddenly melted away.

He stepped forward, bent slightly, and gave Song Guanyu a light hug, just like how they had always greeted each other. He said with a smile, "Zhuzhu, you've lost a lot of weight."

His hand on her shoulder was a bit firm, making Song Guanyu feel a little awkward. She stepped back from his embrace to change the subject. "Let's go, Jiasong. Isn't Teacher already missing me?"

Liang Jiasong paused for a second, then nodded. He opened the car door for her. Song Guanyu got into the back seat, and Lu Chunhe took the front passenger seat.

But Lu Chunhe felt that the air pressure inside the car immediately dropped a few degrees. Maybe it was because the air conditioning was too strong.

After sitting down, Song Guanyu took out her phone and sent a message to Ye Yansheng, her eyes and brows full of smiles.

"Dr. Ye, nagging old man: [Cat singing.jpg]" As soon as she sent it, she received a reply from Ye Yansheng.

"Dr. Ye, nagging old man: 'Xiaodai, I'm in a meeting. I'll reply later. Remember to eat well. [Dog missing you.jpg]'"

Song Guanyu was about to reply when Liang Jiasong, sitting beside her, suddenly spoke.

"Zhuzhu."

Song Guanyu immediately turned her head and met Liang Jiasong's utterly expressionless eyes—very dark eyes. He moved a little closer to her, his breath close.

"Who are you chatting with so happily?"

The smile on Song Guanyu's face froze for a moment. She didn't know if it was because she hadn't seen Liang Jiasong for so long, but she didn't dare to meet his gaze. A strange feeling coursed through her. She blinked, shifted sideways, and moved a little farther away from him.

"Jiasong, I'm chatting with a very good friend."

Liang Jiasong let out a soft laugh, his voice gentle. "Zhuzhu, you've really become distant with me. We've only been apart for a year."

The strange feeling vanished again.

Song Guanyu forced a smile. "No, I haven't, Jiasong. Maybe it's because I didn't sleep well on the plane. I'm just a bit low on energy."

Liang Jiasong suddenly said to the driver, "Drive smoothly." Then he turned to Song Guanyu. "I told the driver to slow down. Get some sleep. Don't play with your phone. You get carsick when you do."

Only then did Song Guanyu smell a sandalwood scent in the car. It seemed Jiasong had changed his cologne—it smelled rather nice.

She nodded. "Okay, I'll sleep for a while." She really was feeling drowsy now, and she yawned.

She hadn't lied earlier. She hadn't slept well on the plane because her mind was full of the joy of seeing Ye Yansheng.

She didn't realize it was a form of longing.

Liang Jiasong draped a blanket over Song Guanyu and said softly, "Sleep. I'll wake you when we arrive."

Song Guanyu fell into a drowsy sleep, accompanied by the pleasant scent of sandalwood.

Liang Jiasong turned his face toward the window, his eyes very distant.
