Chapter 3

"We don't have to sleep in separate rooms...

Looking back on these embarrassing moments, Song Guanyu felt even less able to face Ye Yansheng, but she had to sleep.

Today was the first day she and Ye Yansheng got their marriage certificate, and also the first night of cohabitation. She had moved into his place in a daze; his newly purchased property was still being renovated.

Because of all the rush, her little bear plush didn't make it over in time, making it hard to fall asleep.

Outside the window, the leaves swayed in the early morning wind, and the neon lights of the city cast flickering shadows on the wall—ethereal yet a bit eerie.

In the darkness, Song Guanyu frowned, bit her lower lip, then lifted her big, dark, round eyes to look in Ye Yansheng's direction.

She instinctively swallowed, hesitated for a moment, then quietly inched closer to him.

He was wearing black silk pajamas, his chest rising and falling steadily. She didn't know if he was asleep. If he was, it wouldn't matter if she secretly leaned against him, right?

Her eyes were full of nervousness as she tentatively whispered, "Dr. Ye, are you asleep?" No response. She continued, "We don't have to sleep in separate rooms, do we?"

The man's brow furrowed slightly.

"Dr. Ye?"

Ye Yansheng, who had been holding his breath and struggling to adjust to having someone beside him, was startled by the warm breath too close to his ear. He opened his eyes.

He turned his head and met a pair of gentle, big eyes. Under his gaze, those eyes widened even more.

They were already large, now even bigger. Her eyelashes drooped, forming a natural eyeliner, incredibly thick. Her eyes seemed to hold a mist from the mountains, but her pupils sparkled.

Like a fawn, he thought to himself.

The moonlight was hazy tonight, but her eyes were clear, scattered with tiny stars, softening his heart.

The breath from her mouth carried a rich milky fragrance as she softly asked, "Did I wake you?" The milky scent directly entered his nostrils, lingering.

He instinctively lowered his voice: "I wasn't asleep." That milky scent was from the milk tablets she had eaten after brushing her teeth. He had watched her take out a pack of something that looked like medicine from her bag, frowned ready to ask, then saw it was a pack of "milk tablets." He relaxed his brows, twitched his mouth, and finally pursed his lips without saying anything. The little one sure had a sweet tooth.

He saw her pop two tablets into her mouth, then turn to him with eyes full of smiles, like a child sharing a snack, extending her hand generously to ask if he wanted some.

Ye Yansheng glanced at the white milk tablets in her palm and shook his head, indicating no.

He watched her nod, retract her hand, and eat them herself.

...

They stared at each other for a moment. The living room was empty—he lived alone, so it wasn't fully furnished. Only the residual light from a floor lamp by the sofa illuminated the space. In the dim light, her cheeks were puffed up, her eyelashes long. When she half-closed her eyelids, her lashes fluttered under the light, like a little greedy cat. It seemed he'd need to stock up on snacks for her at home from now on.

He had wanted to laugh but couldn't, so he just endured. In retrospect, the scene was ridiculous, very much like his cousin's gluttonous little Xiaobao.

Snapping back to the present, he turned his head and stared at the ceiling for a moment, half-lidded. His voice was a little hoarse and tired as he replied to her question about separate rooms: "We're already sleeping in the same bed." Sleeping in the same bed meant not sleeping in separate rooms.

Besides, where did newlyweds sleep separately? He had no intention of sleeping in separate beds.

Last night, he had rushed to perform an emergency surgery, exhausting himself. Now he was tired, and there was a cat that needed soothing.

Song Guanyu felt awkward at his words and nodded sheepishly.

She was a singer with a naturally sweet voice, soft and with a captivating trailing tone.

So she softly "oh-ed," dragging the sound a bit, making his heart itch. His hands, folded in front of him, curled slightly.

They were already lying together—she had momentarily forgotten, clearly not yet accepting that she was married.

Her eyes darted around, and she pushed further: "Then... can I sleep holding you?" Her little feet stretched out, revealing her pale, slender ankles, and she subtly touched Ye Yansheng's pajama pants.

The calf muscle she touched was firm.

Ye Yansheng's entire body tensed at her touch, his temples pulsing a few times.

Seeing that he didn't respond, Song Guanyu took it as assent and moved closer, murmuring, "Dr. Ye, you've treated so many patients, please save me too, have mercy... I can't sleep."

Her little mouth kept going: "Because of my work, my daily routine is often irregular. I forgot to bring my little bear plush that's been with me since childhood, so—"

In the darkness, Ye Yansheng slowly turned his head to meet her eyes. They were very close; he could touch the tip of her nose if he moved forward an inch. His obsidian-like eyes looked at her, and he sighed: "Do you need me to drive over now and get your little bear plush?"

With that, he moved to get up, hoping to get her to sleep quickly so he could sleep too.

"Of course not!" Song Guanyu was startled by his movement and quickly grabbed his sleeve, pulling him back onto the bed.

The mattress had good bounce, and he even rebounded a bit.

Her strength surprised him—she looked small but was quite strong.

Song Guanyu immediately leaned over, using her elbow to press down on his shoulder, her upper body also resting on his chest, afraid he would actually get up and drive.

Pinned by her position, Ye Yansheng stared at her for a few seconds, not daring to move. With her slight movements, the fabric of their clothes rubbed together. He seemed to feel the softness beneath her pajamas, and... it seemed to be bare.

She wasn't wearing a bra. The soft, fluffy sensation made his breathing slow down.

The atmosphere fell silent, with only the sound of two hearts thumping in their chests.

Song Guanyu didn't notice his stiffness and continued speaking.

"Dr. Ye, I don't want you to go now," she explained softly. Besides, she wasn't that unreasonable. He was a doctor; he needed enough sleep to have energy and treat patients properly.

She understood that.

On the first day of moving in, not only did she have insomnia, but she also had trouble adjusting to the new bed.

But this had to be resolved so they could both sleep well. She had to go to her senior's recording studio tomorrow to record songs.
