Chapter 8 (2)

Such an unusual tone didn't alert Song Guanyu. She only felt that she shouldn't leave him behind. She had just enjoyed his delicious food. Taking him out to play and get some fresh air didn't seem like a bad idea. Hospitals were so busy every day; he probably didn't have time to relax. As his wife, she should take him out for a spin.

Yes, that's right. She was a perfect wife; she had to keep her husband happy at all times!

She was instantly captivated by his faint sense of loss. She had made up her mind.

He rarely had a day off. The internet said you need to enhance the sense of romance, release dopamine, and let the cerebral cortex receive these things to promote more inspiration.

She blurted out, "Come with me."

Ye Yansheng asked, "Go out with you? Where?"

Song Guanyu's eyes darted. "To where I'm shooting."

"Are you willing to make our relationship public?" His dark eyes locked onto every subtle expression on her face.

Song Guanyu quickly climbed off him. After standing up, she gasped for breath and said, "You'll be my personal bodyguard."

"Personal?" he asked.

Song Guanyu didn't look at him; she just nodded, 'mm-hmm, mm-hmm,' not noticing the playful gleam in Ye Yansheng's eyes.

When her agent, Sister Chunhe, asked later, she'd explain it just like that—she already had the words ready.

His family was poor; it wasn't easy for him to find a job. He had a good build, tall and sturdy, and was strong. He could be her personal bodyguard to fend off stalkers.

The van drove down the lane. In the backseat, the atmosphere was eerie. Song Guanyu sat on one side, not daring to speak.

Lu Chunhe, her agent, looked at the nearby Song Guanyu huddled in her seat with a puzzled expression. When Song Guanyu caught her gaze, she immediately turned to look out the window.

Lu Chunhe: "..." Years of sharp intuition were no joke. From the moment she saw Song Guanyu come out of the house with a blush on her face, and then saw the man standing behind her, his eyes bright and shining when she looked at him.

Perfect! Too perfect! She was confident she could make him famous. But when she shared the idea with Song Guanyu, she was firmly rejected.

Then she learned that he was her newly hired top-tier bodyguard.

But Lu Chunhe wouldn't give up. She now turned around to look at Ye Yansheng sitting at the very back. He had his arms crossed, with smooth muscle lines, wearing black sunglasses, a tight jaw, and pursed lips—looking very unapproachable.

Whoa! A cold-faced, older handsome man! Very popular in the market now. She still wasn't resigned.

She whispered in Song Guanyu's ear, "Baby, is he really your bodyguard? With that aura, he looks like a rich second-generation. He doesn't have the pitiful, poor vibe you mentioned on the phone."

Ye Yansheng's brows suddenly knitted together and lowered.

Song Guanyu laughed awkwardly to cover it up and replied politely, "Sister Chunhe, a bodyguard without presence is useless. Don't get any ideas about him. Other than his brute strength, he doesn't have any other skills."

She thought she wasn't wrong: he kissed hard, hugged hard, and had one more skill—cooking delicious food. But she couldn't mention that, of course.

Lu Chunhe backed off but then asked about his education.

"Oh... He didn't go to school. His family was too poor when he was a kid." That finally dispelled Lu Chunhe's interest completely. No talent, just a face—that wouldn't do.

After saying that, Song Guanyu secretly glanced at Ye Yansheng when Lu Chunhe turned away disappointed.

Ye Yansheng wore a formfitting black crew-neck T-shirt tucked into black cargo pants, with lace-up black short boots. One leg was casually crossed over the other. He sat high on the seat, expressionless and menacing, his presence overwhelming.

Whether it was an illusion, Song Guanyu felt his murderous glare and quickly shrank back.

This was what Song Guanyu had him change into before they left. He wasn't used to such clothes at first, but Song Guanyu insisted, saying it was standard for bodyguards.

He compromised.

Just then, Lu Chunhe noticed something shocking and told Song Guanyu.

"What happened to your hand!"

On Song Guanyu's right ring finger, there was a mark where the skin tone differed from the surrounding area. Lu Chunhe immediately grabbed her hand and brought it close to her eyes. She looked up at Song Guanyu. "This is?"

Song Guanyu looked down. She was so nervous she was about to sweat, but her face remained calm. "I wore a ring given by the brand a few days ago. The sun has been harsh these days, so it left a tan line. It'll fade in a few days."

Lu Chunhe released her hand and said flatly, "Remember to apply sunscreen next time. Your delicate skin turns red easily, and marks are hard to get rid of. Some brands can be picky about that. We can't let them hold that against us. Got it?"

Song Guanyu smiled and nodded, whispering, "Okay, okay."

Her face stiff as she slowly turned to look out the window. Good thing Ye Yansheng reminded her to take off the ring before she left—but there was an embarrassing incident when she was taking it off.

As Song Guanyu was rushing to open the door at the entrance, Ye Yansheng grabbed her. She turned around and saw him holding out one hand to her.

She was dazed. Then, as she realized, she felt a bit shy. She and Ye Yansheng had never held hands before. Awkwardly and gently, she laid her hand on his palm, smiling at him.

Ye Yansheng bent down and looked at her seriously. "Miss Song, aren't you going to take off the ring?"

Caught off guard by his words, she said, "Oh... Fine, fine. I'll take it off." Well, her dream of interlocking fingers was shattered. Song Guanyu blushed deeply.

Ye Yansheng's face was calm, but she could see a hint of teasing on his face.

"I'll keep it safe for you. After work, I'll put it back on you." He kept staring at her with a smile and added, "Work hard. Tonight, you can hold my hand when you get home."

She turned away. He was so annoying, but she couldn't get angry at that face. So she had to swallow her frustration.
