The florist spoke.
Song Guanyu's eyes behind the sunglasses widened. Her heart was racing anxiously when she heard,
"Really? Are you Dr. Ye's new wife?"
Song Guanyu: '?' This wasn't how she had imagined it. Why did the florist seem even happier than she was? Shouldn't she have recognized her? Her voice was so distinctive.
Song Guanyu started to doubt her own fame again. She really needed to create more hit songs.
In the end, she didn't remember when the florist left, only that before leaving, she held Song Guanyu's hand and said things like, 'Wishing you a happy marriage and a baby soon.' Then, under Song Guanyu's bewildered gaze, she pressed the elevator button.
While waiting for the elevator, Song Guanyu blinked and saw the florist on the phone, talking nonstop.
"Dad, I told you, a talented doctor like Dr. Ye can't possibly be single. Stop trying to set him up on blind dates every day. I just delivered flowers to his house, and his precious wife signed for them in person."
Song Guanyu stood straight at the door, watching her step into the elevator. The voice gradually faded. "His wife is petite, like a little radish head, super cute and beautiful. You know what? Dr. Ye really treasures his new wife. She even wore a mask and sunglasses at home so we couldn't see her. Makes you think he married a celebrity..."
Song Guanyu didn't catch the rest, but she really wanted to say at that moment:
'How could you tell how beautiful I am when I was wearing a mask and sunglasses?'
Dazed, she closed the door. Happily hugging the large bouquet, she slowly shuffled to the living room. She took off her mask and sunglasses, set down the flowers, kissed the petals, then ran to the bathroom in the bedroom to examine herself in the mirror.
She admitted to being petite—she had a well-proportioned figure and a small frame. But being compared to a little radish head? Song Guanyu felt it was a jab at her height. Her proportions were perfect!
Song Guanyu crossed one arm over her chest and gently rested her chin on the other hand, thinking.
The 'cute and beautiful' part was somewhat satisfying, but... she had been completely covered. How could she tell she was a celebrity?
The bathroom light shone brightly on her. She made funny faces at the mirror, squeezing her face, going through a whole routine.
That sister wasn't wrong—she really was super cute.
Song Guanyu had never felt so wonderful being complimented. She had received many passionate praises from fans before, but none made her as happy as this. Probably because of Ye Yansheng—or rather, Ye Yansheng's 'precious wife.'
Outside, the summer cicadas buzzed loudly. The sunlight was clear and pure. Though it was sweltering heat, Song Guanyu's heart felt as if a gentle breeze had brushed through it.
Laughter echoed from the bathroom, filled with irrepressible joy.
The trees along the street stood tall and straight. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting dancing shadows on the ground. Suddenly, a hot wind swept through, and a leaf from a branch drifted down lightly, landing quietly in Ye Yansheng's palm.
Ye Yansheng had been consulting all day. When it was time to leave, he stood by the window, wanting to feel the breeze and breathe fresh air. Suddenly, a leaf drifted onto the windowsill. He picked it up, looked at the green leaf in his hand, and chuckled.
Green was such a beautiful color, symbolizing a new beginning.
He took out his phone, ready to send a message to Song Guanyu as usual, when he saw her message instead.
Song Xiaodai is really silly: [Dr. Ye, I've gone back to my place. Come over after work, okay? Because there's no space at home for me to write lyrics and compose music.]
Followed by the address and the code to her door. The code was... his birthday.
After replying, he put his phone back in his pocket. Ye Yansheng looked up at the sky.
This morning, the sky had been clear and cloudless. Now, it was gradually darkening, as if rain was imminent. His profile radiated a subtle feeling called 'happiness,' and a smile lingered on his lips.
Ye Yansheng quickly took off his white coat, hung it neatly on the chair, grabbed his car keys, and rushed downstairs with rapid strides.
He didn't take the elevator; he took the stairs, descending at a fast pace.
Ye Yansheng's swift run astonished people. In his thirty-two years, he had never looked forward to something so much.
On his way to see her, running swiftly, it felt as if he had suddenly boarded a time machine, returning to his youthful days—when he had been thrilled about grades and rankings. Now, rushing to see Song Guanyu, he couldn't contain his excitement, like a young boy experiencing his first love.
His wife was waiting for him at their other home, along with her favorite spicy crawfish.
He reached the address Song Guanyu had sent, driving smoothly all the way. The rain had indeed grown heavier, showing no signs of letting up. This was a detached villa area, quite spacious. He parked by the iron gate, about fifteen meters from Song Guanyu's front door. Already resigned to getting drenched, Ye Yansheng grabbed the groceries he had bought from the supermarket and was about to open the car door.
But then he saw Song Guanyu running anxiously toward him through the rain, holding a large black umbrella. The umbrella looked unwieldy in her hands, quite oversized.
She had already trotted up to the car door and knocked on the window, motioning for Ye Yansheng to get out. Her worried eyes were reflected on the glass, and his heart instantly softened.
As soon as Ye Yansheng opened the door, Song Guanyu held the umbrella over him. She stood on tiptoe to hold it up with some difficulty as the wind picked up. He quickly got out, closed the car door, took the umbrella from her, and wrapped one arm tightly around her shoulders, pulling her close.
They ran together to the door, splashing small puddles as they went.
He folded the umbrella and finally took a good look at it. It was indeed huge—big enough to fit two of him. Ye Yansheng let out a laugh, his eyes warm as he looked at her.
He asked, "Why did you bring such a big umbrella? I'm a man; getting a little wet is no big deal."
She only replied with a smile, "A big umbrella ensures you don't get soaked. You're human, not made of iron. If you catch a cold, who's going to cook delicious food for me?" She licked her lips, snatched the umbrella from him, placed it in the umbrella stand, and dragged him quickly inside, muttering, "Dr. Ye, hurry inside. I've been thinking about you all day—"
The door closed. The warm light inside the house contrasted with the cold rain outside. A sense of warmth grew. Where there was the烟火气 (mundane warmth) of love, there was home.
It was their home.
From the kitchen, Song Guanyu's voice could be heard asking, "Dr. Ye, is today some special occasion? Why did you send me flowers?"
The man washing crawfish chuckled softly. "I wanted to send them. I don't need a special occasion."
The girl hummed a long, lazy 'Oh.'
The rain outside was heavier now, pounding fiercely against the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The curtains were lifted by the wind. Papers on the messy living room table scattered. One piece drifted lightly onto the carpet, silent.
It bore a complete set of lyrics. At the very end, it read:
"You entered my spiritual sea, your reflection in my eyes. Your lips are a different warmth; my lips bear the mark that belongs only to you."
