Basic Locker
The system's electronic voice echoed in Lin Mo's mind again:
[Train Conductor novice mission complete. Reward: Basic Locker]
[Claim?]
Lin Mo withdrew her gaze from surveying the carriage, focused her mind, and silently said, "Yes."
As soon as she spoke, metal compartments slid out of the carriage wall without warning. A crisp, clear "click-clack" of interlocking pieces echoed through the empty carriage.
In less than a minute, four square cabinets landed steadily on the carriage floor, each exactly 1m×1m×1m. Their silver-gray metal exteriors gleamed with a subtle cold light, blending seamlessly with the carriage's overall style.
A pale blue cabinet icon appeared on the control panel, followed by a prompt: [Move?]
Lin Mo paused her finger over the panel, then lightly tapped "Yes."
When she tried dragging the icon, she realized she could precisely adjust the cabinets' positions and even fine-tune their angles. She arranged the four cabinets in a line against the rear of the carriage.
This way, they neither blocked the path nor wasted space, and the flat tops could still hold items.
She walked over and pulled open one of the cabinet doors. Inside, it wasn't empty but divided into compartments of varying sizes, including drawers and storage grids.
The cabinet felt cool and smooth, like metal. Lin Mo tried pushing the middle shelf; it could be adjusted up and down or completely removed, making it very flexible.
Then, a faint white text slowly appeared on the inside of the door.
[Basic Locker: Provides certain fruit and vegetable preservation functions]
A hint of delight flickered in Lin Mo's eyes. This meant she could stock up on leafy greens in the future. Earlier, she hadn't bought any at the market because they spoil easily.
She had been worried about lacking leafy greens and getting an unbalanced diet, but now the situation had improved.
Lin Mo placed the tomatoes into the Basic Locker to test its preservation effect. For storage, she had chosen tomatoes that weren't fully red yet; they could last 20 days indoors in winter. With the Basic Locker's boost, she wondered how long they would last.
She tried swiping the control panel—after completing the mission, there were more options. But before she could explore further, another new mission status prompt popped up.
[Novice Mission: Collect 100kg of building materials]
[Details: Metal, stone, paint, glass, ceramics, composite materials, etc., can be absorbed as building materials at a certain ratio]
Building materials were widely available, so collecting them shouldn't be hard. Even unused fitness equipment or ceramic bowls at home could count, though she didn't know the conversion ratio.
Additionally, Lin Mo noticed that the "Basic Info" section had become more detailed. She scanned down and soon saw her detailed attribute panel.
[Physique: 5]
[Attack: 5]
[Agility: 5]
[Spirit: A-grade]
[Talent: Not awakened]
Lin Mo raised an eyebrow slightly, thinking to herself: These stats look ordinary. Is the full score 10? A-grade should be high, right? And this "Talent"—what is it?
She tried asking the system mentally, but only silence answered.
The Plus button next to the attributes was grayed out and unresponsive. However, combined with the "Talent not yet awakened" prompt, there must be conditions to upgrade in the future.
After studying it a bit more, unable to get more information, Lin Mo dismissed the control panel with her mind. She was getting used to this interaction method— besides touch, focused thought could precisely control the system.
Lin Mo walked to the cold-glowing door at the front of the carriage and turned the handle. With a "click," the door opened.
The door hinge emitted a faint pneumatic sound. In the next second, her familiar living room came into view— the faded floor, the messy old furniture instantly brought her back to reality.
The apartment was built in 2005, with one bedroom, one living room, one kitchen, one bathroom, plus a small enclosed courtyard with capped walls, totaling 70 square meters.
The living room, dining room, and kitchen were open-plan, all in a line. The small southern courtyard was separated only by a transparent sliding door. With the sliding door open, the whole space was as neat as a rectangular block of tofu, more than enough to roll around in.
Rent in S City was outrageously high, but this apartment had severe flaws: the first floor was damp enough to grow mushrooms in the yard, and the landlord had removed most of the furniture. That's how Lin Mo got it for 4700 yuan per month.
Now, the spacious living room was almost entirely taken up by the carriage, as if a giant had stepped on it. Lin Mo's luggage, clothes rack, and other items were squeezed to the side; the old fabric sofa was twisted into a long strip; and the shoe cabinet at the entrance had been crushed.
In contrast, the train sitting quietly in the middle of the living room looked even more extraordinary. The carriage had a sleek, futuristic shape, made of a metal material Lin Mo had never seen, with flowing blue particles. These star-like specks moved across the metal surface, scattering softly when they touched her fingerprints, as if alive.
The wheels under the carriage were moonlight silver, with a heavy metallic gear texture. There were four of them, short and almost blending into the carriage body.
Lin Mo gently stroked the surface and sighed, "Truly a material I've never seen... like something out of a sci-fi movie."
Fortunately, the north and south windows had privacy film; otherwise, if someone saw it, they'd definitely call the police.
Lin Mo tried moving the train mentally, but the system popped up two messages:
[Insufficient energy reserves, cannot move]
[Insufficient energy reserves, cannot drive]
"Energy?"
Lin Mo frowned, repeating softly. Even if it couldn't move, she couldn't just leave the train sitting in the living room forever. What if someone came to the door unexpectedly? There's no way to explain it.
As if sensing this strong concern, the control panel suddenly flashed a message:
[Enable space fold mode?]
Lin Mo's heart stirred, and she immediately thought, "Yes."
