The newly matured lettuce was still crisp and sweet, as if touched by morning dew, its outer skin showing a glossy emerald green. Beside it, the roast duck had a golden, crispy skin, and when poked with chopsticks, warm grease slowly seeped along the fibers.
Bai Jie's mother's eyes lit up as she took a bite and exclaimed in surprise, "This is way too fragrant!"
The rich meat aroma mixed with the refreshing taste of lettuce was a perfect match.
"Don't rush. Rolling it in a pancake makes it even better." As he spoke, Bai Jie's father pulled out a stack of thick multigrain pancakes from under the bunk bed, then grabbed a green scallion, rinsed it carefully under the simple faucet in the corner of the carriage, and dried it.
The pancakes had a toasted grain aroma. The old man skillfully unfolded one, wrapped it in the oily duck meat, fresh lettuce, and scallion segments, took a big bite, and his brows instantly relaxed as he let out a satisfied sigh: "I haven't eaten such delicious food in a long time."
