Chapter 10: Countdown to Extreme Cold

Buying a Bean Bag Sofa

Seeing the spacious wardrobe where clothes could be hung neatly, and thinking about her own small wardrobe at home that was stuffed so full the door wouldn't close properly, Lin Mo felt a twinge of desire: she really did need a decent wardrobe to hang up her clothes, so she wouldn't have to fold them or rummage through a mess when looking for something.

But then she reconsidered: now was not the time for enjoyment.

Space at home and in the train was limited. Survival was the top priority. A large wardrobe was less practical than storage shelves.

Just as she withdrew her gaze and was about to turn away, her peripheral vision caught a mint-green bean bag sofa in the corner.

The sofa looked beautiful. The velvet fabric seemed incredibly soft, and it didn't take up space when stored. Remembering the old sofa that had a spring pop out after being squeezed by the train and felt a bit lumpy to sit on, the scales in Lin Mo's heart instantly tipped.

The sales assistant clicked over in her high heels: "Hello, can I help you with anything?"

Lin Mo said calmly, "Mm, I'll take this sofa."

When the weather turned cold, she would definitely spend most of her time at home. The sofa and bed were the most frequently used items. This bean bag sofa didn't take up much space, so since she liked it, she bought it.

The new bed was too big and had no place to put it, but she could replace the mattress to sleep more comfortably. The landlord's old mattress was soft and saggy with no support at all—it should have been discarded long ago.

Lin Mo gently pressed her fingertips onto the mattress. The zero-pressure mattress was indeed comfortable: soft without being saggy, with just the right rebound.

The sales assistant came closer and said, "This mattress is the bestseller in the mall. The deep-sleep mattress is super comfortable to sleep on, and it won't sag over time."

Lin Mo glanced at the price tag on the mattress: the bean bag sofa was 459 yuan, and the 1.8-meter zero-pressure mattress was 3,819 yuan. Together, they were less than 5,000.

When she had paid for the appliances earlier, the mall had given her a coupon for 15% off on purchases over 5,000 yuan. It would be a shame not to use it. "Please recommend a pair of slow-rebound deep-sleep memory pillows, priced above 722 yuan, to bring the total to the 5,000 discount threshold."

During the Dragon Boat Festival this year, she had gone to Northeast China to visit Bai Jie. She had slept on the same memory pillows at the Atour Hotel's deep-sleep room, and the firmness was just right. At that time, she had thought about buying them, but then Bai Jie had stuffed her with a box full of Northeastern specialties, and she got so busy packing mushrooms, pine nuts, and sticky bean buns that she forgot about the pillows.

The sales assistant was delighted inside—this deal was closing too quickly. She promptly responded, "Sure! Please come this way. These are all high-end memory pillows." She quickly grabbed a calculator and punched in numbers. "Miss, you calculated it perfectly. Adding 722 yuan will let you use the coupon. Plus, our furniture store offers a free pair of throw pillows for purchases over 5,000 yuan."

Lin Mo picked up a pair of memory pillows and pressed them with her hand. The slow-rebound effect was indeed the same as in the hotel. When she released her hand, they slowly returned to their original shape without deforming. The pillowcases were detachable pure cotton, soft and skin-friendly to the touch, with good breathability. She nodded. "I'll take this pair."

"Great! These are the complimentary throw pillows."

The throw pillows had a white base with simple cartoon cloud patterns—clean and refreshing in design. Lin Mo reached out and squeezed them. The bounce wasn't outstanding, but the velvet surface was fine and soft. They felt warm in her arms and were quite comfortable to the touch.

"Please deliver these together with the appliances I just bought."

"Okay, no problem." The sales assistant quickly noted it on the order and handed over a QR code. "Miss, please add me on WeChat? If you need any home furnishings in the future, just look for me, and I'll give you an exclusive discount."

Lin Mo scanned the code and passed. Then she went downstairs to buy a cup of hot milk tea and dozens of skewers of spicy meat and vegetable kebabs.

Calculating the time, she still had at least forty to fifty minutes before she got home. She could just order Meituan delivery—maybe the delivery driver and she would arrive at the same time.

Inspired by her visit to the milk tea shop, Lin Mo bought two large bottles of honey, two boxes of tea leaves, and ten jin each of lemons and oranges on Meituan. When she got home, she could make her own honey lemon tea and fresh orange green tea, which were both delicious and supplemented vitamin C.

She found an empty seat and sat down. She hadn't even finished eating the skewers when someone called out to her.

The sales assistant from the appliance section poked her head out and waved: "Miss Lin! Everything's loaded onto the truck. We're just waiting for you!"

It turned out the delivery workers were efficient and had already loaded the heaters, refrigerator, washer-dryer set, microwave, zero-pressure mattress, and bean bag sofa onto the truck.

Lin Mo followed the truck back to the neighborhood and watched as the workers carried the big items into her home.

"Where should we put these?" asked the lead worker.

"Please put the refrigerator in the dining room, the mattress and pillows by the bedroom bedside, and the rest in the middle of the living room."

She needed to start using the refrigerator right away. If she put it in the train, she would have to consume precious power cards, so it was better to keep it in the dining room. The mattress would go on the bed, and she would change the pillows tonight to immediately improve sleep quality. As for the washing machine, dryer, and others, she would leave them in the living room for now until they could go into the train.

The workers moved the refrigerator into the dining room and carried the mattress into the bedroom. Looking at the cramped dining space, one couldn't help muttering, "This dining room is a bit tight. The dining table and chairs can barely be pulled out."

"It's fine. I'll adjust it myself later," Lin Mo said with a wave, not caring. After all, it was only temporary—sooner or later, she'd move somewhere else.

"True," one of the workers said with a smile. "Anyway, there will be workers coming next week to install the washing machine. They can help you rearrange things then."
