Chapter 31 (2)

She went back to the living room, curled up on the sofa, and was about to find a movie to pass the time when she suddenly received a call from Gu Enzhun.

She said that Xiaomi had been hit on the foot by an advertising billboard on her way to the shop and was being taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Hearing this, Yu Wanwan's heart tightened. Her friend lived alone, her parents were always away on business, so she was essentially on her own. At times like this, she could only rely on her two best friends. Without a second thought, Yu Wanwan quickly changed clothes and rushed to the hospital.

She pushed open the ward door. Mi Xiaonai was lying on the hospital bed, her left foot in a cast and suspended in the air. Gu Enzhun was taking care of her.

Seeing this, Yu Wanwan felt a pang of heartache. She walked over and asked with concern, "How's your foot? Do you need surgery?"

Mi Xiaonai pouted pitifully, her eyes still red. "The doctor said my ankle is shattered. I need to wait for the swelling to go down before surgery."

Hearing this, Yu Wanwan frowned so hard it could kill a fly. "That serious?"

Gu Enzhun beside her was both distressed and reproachful. "I told you not to go out in this weather. The wind is so strong outside. No tourists would go to the mall. And you dared to ride an electric scooter."

"I didn't want to either..." Mi Xiaonai's voice carried a hint of grievance. "A client was rushing me for the goods. I was just unlucky—I stopped there to answer a call. My scooter wasn't damaged, but it hit my foot."

Gu Enzhun sighed, softening her tone. "Thank goodness it only hit your foot and didn't hurt anywhere else. Do you know how worried I was when I got that call?"

The wind outside banged the balcony door loudly. The weather was so bad it felt like demons were about to descend.

Yu Wanwan checked the time. It was almost one o'clock. She asked, "Have you two eaten?"

Gu Enzhun shook her head. "No, we just finished a bunch of tests. I'm starving."

"What do you want to eat? I'll go buy it for you." She said, picking up her bag.

Gu Enzhun glanced at the windy weather outside. "Just pick up whatever."

Mi Xiaonai blinked, acting spoiled like a patient. "I want pig trotters from the shop across the hospital. You know, 'like cures like.' My foot is this injured, so I need to eat some pig trotters to help it heal."

"Okay, I'll get them for you."

With that, she walked out of the ward and pressed the elevator button to go down.

As soon as Yu Wanwan stepped out of the hospital, the wind was so strong she had to hug herself.

She was about to charge into the wind when she heard a familiar voice calling her name: "Wanwan."

Yu Wanwan turned around. Lu Peizhi stood under the eaves at the hospital entrance, his face full of tension and worry.

He quickly walked down the steps to her side and asked urgently, "Why are you at the hospital alone in this wind? Are you feeling unwell?"

The two hadn't crossed paths since that day. Yu Wanwan didn't expect to run into him here. She replied impatiently, "None of your business."

With that, she ignored him and walked straight onto the footbridge, heading toward the pig trotter shop across from the hospital.

Footsteps followed persistently behind her. Lu Peizhi stuck to her like a piece of chewing gum. "I'm just concerned about you. Do you have to be so cold to me every time?" His voice carried a faint hint of pleading.

"Who asked for your concern!" Yu Wanwan didn't look back, her tone hard as stone.

"Wanwan..."

"Stop following me."

As she spoke, she quickened her pace. Entering the shop, she ordered three servings of pig trotters from the owner.

"Can't we just talk properly?" Lu Peizhi followed her into the shop, continuing relentlessly.

Facing her ex's harassment, Yu Wanwan's voice was full of helplessness. "I already told you it's over between us. What else do you want to talk about?"

"It's not over!" Lu Peizhi stubbornly retorted, his eyes churning with unwillingness. "In my heart, it's never been over."

Yu Wanwan nearly exhausted by his persistence, said helplessly, "But in my heart, it's completely over. I beg you, can you just face reality?"
