Chapter 1

"If you think it's fine, let's go get the marriage license at the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow."

Inside the elegantly decorated French restaurant, the man reached out and tenderly held Yu Wanwan's hand.

Yu Wanwan looked at the extraordinary man before her and couldn't help but secretly calculate in her mind: Good looks, matching family background, decent conversation... but I wonder if his life is tough enough...

Before she could finish her scheming, the crystal chandelier above suddenly fell with a loud "bang" without warning, precisely hitting the man across from her.

"Ah—" Yu Wanwan, startled by the sudden incident, screamed and immediately stood up.

The restaurant fell into chaos. Amid the screams, Yu Wanwan froze in her chair, her eyes filled with nothing but terror.

Soon, nearby waiters and the restaurant manager rushed over. Amid the noise, a waiter seemed to ask about her condition, but Yu Wanwan couldn't hear a word—her eyes were fixed on the man opposite, his head covered in blood.

Indeed, another weak-life man...

The ambulance arrived quickly. Only when the man was carried onto the stretcher did Yu Wanwan react belatedly. She grabbed her bag and was about to get on the ambulance with him.

But just as she stepped one foot onto the ambulance, the man who had been barely alive on the stretcher suddenly sat up with a start. Unlike the tender gaze when he had held her hand, his eyes were now full of terror. In a trembling voice, he said, "Don't let that woman on. She's not my family."

Hearing this, the people around immediately turned to Yu Wanwan with suspicion and caution.

Seeing the nurse's hesitation, the man spoke again in a desperate, trembling voice: "Please, don't let that woman on. Otherwise, I might not make it to the hospital."

Hearing the man avoid her like the plague, Yu Wanwan could only lower her head, tactfully stepping back.

Watching the ambulance disappear into the rainy night, Yu Wanwan sighed bitterly.

This was already the fifth blind date she had sent to the hospital this month.

Why? She just wanted to find a handsome man with a tough life for a contract marriage and slack off. Why was it so difficult?

If it weren't for her family business declining, if it weren't for the constant harassment from her ex-boyfriend and the bet he provoked her with—"Get married within seven months"—why would she come out to "harm others" through blind dates?

The cold rain hit her face, and Yu Wanwan couldn't help but recall Lu Peizhi's smug expression: "In all of Fuyi City, who else dares to marry you besides me?"

Was she destined to marry that scumbag Lu Peizhi?

She refused to accept it.

The rain streamed down her cheeks, but Yu Wanwan's eyes suddenly brightened.

She refused to believe that among so many men in the world, she couldn't find one more handsome and with a tougher life than Lu Peizhi.

No, Yu Wanwan, you must not be defeated by such a small setback.

Next one, keep going!

The rain gradually stopped. Yu Wanwan, in high heels, strolled slowly along the wet street.

She had planned to walk for a while before going home, but unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate. After a few minutes, the rain intensified, and raindrops the size of soybeans poured down.

Luckily, a bus stop was nearby. Yu Wanwan hurried over to take shelter. She smoothed her rain-soaked hair, pulled out her phone from her bag, and was about to order a ride. But just as she turned on the screen, the phone died and shut down.

Yu Wanwan wiped the raindrops off her screen, furious enough to throw her phone away. Today was just terrible.

But worse was yet to come. A black car sped toward her, not slowing down as it passed the bus stop. Its wheels splashed water from the puddle, drenching Yu Wanwan completely.

"Ah—" she screamed as she was splashed, then cursed at the retreating car, "Hey, you jerk! Don't you know you have to slow down at a bus stop?!"

Frustrated by the failed blind date, and now soaked by an inconsiderate driver, her anger boiled over.

Worst of all, the dress she had carefully chosen for tonight, worth five figures, and her handbag worth six figures—which absolutely couldn't get wet—were now ruined.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. She quickly looked around, picked up half a brick from a flowerbed, rushed to the road, and hurled it at the car that hadn't driven too far away.

With a "thump," the brick hit the rear windshield of the black car. Though the glass didn't break, it left a web of cracks.

Watching the car disappear, Yu Wanwan clapped her hands in satisfaction. She returned to the bus stop and looked at her soiled bag with heartache.

This was a limited edition!

Just as she was wondering how to get home, a strong light shone from not far away. Yu Wanwan looked up to see the same black car that had splashed her—it had made a detour to come back.

As the car came closer, she realized with horror that she had just hit a Maybach, with an arrogant license plate 8888.

Oh no, oh no, oh no. She glanced around the empty bus stop, panicking inside.

Had the owner specifically turned around to cause trouble for her? Though she was wrong to throw a brick, he had splashed her first.

Looking at the arrogant license plate, she couldn't help but start imagining a terrifying scene of a gangster killing her on a rainy night.

With the dark night and pouring rain, any trace could be washed away. Would she die in vain?

The more she thought, the more scared she became. She regretted throwing the brick.

Just as she prayed that the owner would be a law-abiding citizen and only wanted her to pay for the repair, the Maybach pulled up smoothly right in front of her.

Yu Wanwan instinctively stepped back two steps, clutching her bag strap. Her slender legs trembled from nervousness.

Just as she felt her heart would jump out of her throat, the rear door opened from inside. A shiny black leather shoe stepped out onto the wet ground. Then, a tall man slowly got out of the car and approached Yu Wanwan with a cold expression.

His deep eyes gleamed sharply in the rainy night, like an eagle's claws locking onto the panicked woman before him.

Yu Wanwan was instantly intimidated by his strong aura. His appearance and the powerful presence he exuded made her—always prone to overthinking—immediately conclude that he was a gangster. She stepped back again until her head hit the bus stop advertisement board. She realized she had nowhere to retreat.

A great woman knows when to yield. To survive, Yu Wanwan clasped her hands together, imitating a Korean drama heroine, and began to plead, "Please don't kill me. I'll pay whatever you want."

The man paused for a moment, then parted his thin lips: "Who wants to kill you?"
