Chapter 12: Setting the Hook (3)

After this period of friction, the young master had better posture. His attitude hadn't changed much, though. He tapped his fingers on the desk, trying to warn Jiang Ruoqi about her slacking off: "What are you doing? Slacking off at work? I'll deduct your pay!"

Jiang Ruoqi lazily raised her eyelids. "Then tell your dad to hire a robot. A robot doesn't slack off; it works 24/7 until it breaks down."

"You..." Duan Jinchen was speechless. He couldn't win an argument with her.

"Everything we're doing now is just the normal process for a new product launch. The timeline might be tight, but we're playing it safe. Neither I nor the plan is irreplaceable.

'After the initial marketing phase, we'll adjust based on sales. I proposed this innovative plan to test upper management's intentions. If it's good, we optimize and push forward. If not, we scrap it and start over. Better to reject two plans now than spend money on ineffective ones later.'

Duan Jinchen wanted to argue but mumbled, "But this plan was originally proposed by that Sandy. She got into marketing through connections upstairs."

"You seem to have misunderstood something." Jiang Ruoqi sighed. Having an assistant who insisted on digging into everything meant she had to explain everything clearly, which was exhausting. "We're not completely opposed to those upstairs. Although we're in different camps with our own agendas, we're still in the same company. As long as they're not engaging in corporate espionage, we can use any suitable marketing plan, regardless of who proposed it. No need to fight to the death over it."

"What if he really does engage in corporate espionage?" Duan Jinchen persisted.

If not for the young master's presence, Jiang Ruoqi would have wanted to say, "What does that have to do with me?"

"That's a matter for the higher-ups. It's beyond my pay grade." Jiang Ruoqi forced a smile and looked down at her phone. "I can only do my job and cooperate with Gangcheng to keep marketing and promotion under the group's headquarters. It might have a deterrent effect, but that's secondary."

"Understand?"

Duan Jinchen looked down and remained silent, seemingly getting it. Before Jiang Ruoqi could breathe a sigh of relief, he asked again, "So what do we do next?"

Jiang Ruoqi checked the time. It was just past 4 p.m., two hours until the end of the workday.

Time sure drags when waiting to clock out!

"Next? Of course, we wait for the end of the day and catch up on sleep over the weekend." Jiang Ruoqi said matter-of-factly. "We need to recharge. Next week, we'll have to deal with the second round of advertising. Double Twelve's sales will basically set the tone for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Our performance and year-end bonus will depend on those numbers."

Duan Jinchen glanced at her and seemed to hesitate: "Have you finished moving? Need any help this weekend?"

"I've moved. No help needed." Jiang Ruoqi was texting again, answering Duan Jinchen absently. She sounded like she was making things up. "But I have a lot going on this weekend. The nights are long, and the house is too empty. I'm planning to grab a handsome guy for a pre-marital checkup. If he's healthy with no bad habits, we'll register for marriage directly. Then I can legitimately boss him around for physical labor."

Duan Jinchen: "..."

Nuts!

Duan Jinchen rolled his eyes at Jiang Ruoqi, ignored her, opened the door, and left. He muttered to himself: Sure enough, people go crazy under too much pressure!

Unfortunately, Jiang Ruoqi couldn't hear his thoughts. If she had, she would have sincerely assured him she was telling the truth.

She had indeed arranged to go for a pre-marital checkup with a handsome guy on Saturday.

And who was this handsome guy? Naturally, Dr. Meng Shang, who had willingly taken the bait.

Meng Shang had initially texted Jiang Ruoqi to arrange a time to talk about marriage. The general situation was clear; they just needed to discuss family members and relationships.

Jiang Ruoqi remembered Ada's advice about valuing health. So she simply made an appointment at the pre-marital checkup center.

If they talked well, they could do the checkup. By the time the results came out, they could still get to the civil affairs bureau to register. Since they were already there, and it was all free.

On a rare Friday that ended on time, Jiang Ruoqi took a taxi home, but it was already dark.

She walked heavily. Days of busyness and lack of sleep made her want to shower and go straight to bed.

But experience told her that once she lay down, sleep would elude her, and she'd end up scrolling through boring videos until late.

Usually, she needed some external help. If she remembered correctly, the Macallan 18-year Sherry Oak she ordered should arrive today.

She hadn't had time to buy ice ball molds, but there was some crushed ice in the freezer. Hopefully, it wouldn't affect the taste.

Jiang Ruoqi loved drinking and could hold her liquor. With no outlet for stress and no interest in messy relationships, drinking was her only hobby.

Getting tipsy, her limbs went limp.

It meant she would sleep well, recharge, and then find Meng Shang to get married.
