Chapter 32 (2)

The other: "Dean Liu set it up. What do you think?"

Wu Xiaofeng's first reaction: "Then Dean Jiang will be furious when he finds out."

Saying that, he couldn't help getting curious too. "Who from your hospital was introduced? Do I know them?"

Then he suddenly remembered that Shi Wenli had mentioned in his Moment that he was the one who took the initiative to meet the woman.

"From your neurosurgery department?" Wu Xiaofeng guessed.

In the same field, even across hospitals, there were many opportunities to meet.

The other only said: "You know her."

Wu Xiaofeng quickly ran through all the people he knew in his mind. Lost contact for years, he wasn't sure who was single.

He tried to guess a few but was wrong each time.

The other: "You're not guessing the obvious one."

Wu Xiaofeng suddenly thought of someone: "Yu... Yu Jia—"

He knew her well, but the name got stuck on his tongue.

The other simply said it: "Yu Jianing."

"Right, right, Yu Jianing. Really her?"

"Mm. Who else could make Shi Wenli take the initiative for a blind date? Didn't you joke about them back then, saying if they got married, they wouldn't need to buy a car—you'd give them one?"

At the reminder, Wu Xiaofeng suddenly remembered everything.

The boast he made ten years ago had come back to haunt him.

Wu Xiaofeng never expected to be the first person in their hospital to know the truth.

After a few more casual remarks, he ended the call.

Wu Xiaofeng had just finished eating and parted ways with the female colleague who had asked him to inquire. Luckily, this call came a few minutes later—if she had been present and heard that Shi Wenli was with Yu Jianing from the neighboring hospital, she might have felt even worse.

Wu Xiaofeng put down his phone and started the car to leave.

Just now he had mocked Shi Wenli's classmates for being idle, but now he himself felt restless. Instead of turning right to go home after leaving the restaurant parking lot, he inexplicably turned left and drove toward the community where Shi Wenli was renting.

Others couldn't reach Shi Wenli, but he could.

Over the years, he had been to Shi Wenli's place more than once.

At 8:50, he parked under the building where Shi Wenli lived.

It wasn't yet 9 p.m., not too late.

Wu Xiaofeng locked the car and went upstairs. Before entering the elevator, he sent Shi Wenli another message: [I'm at your building. Are you home?]

Still no response.

Shi Wenli had just finished showering and was laying out the quilt when the doorbell rang.

Xu Qinghe had a key, so if she came back, she wouldn't ring the doorbell.

His sister and brother-in-law wouldn't show up suddenly at this hour either.

The only possibility he could think of was his mother.

A while ago, his mother had come to drop something off, but they hadn't met. Now that he had publicly announced he was in a relationship, she probably came to ask about it in person.

When he looked through the peephole and saw who was standing at the door, he was somewhat surprised.

Wu Xiaofeng never liked to pry into others' affairs, yet here he was.

The door opened, and Wu Xiaofeng gave a few dry laughs.

Shi Wenli stepped aside: "Come in and sit."

"No need," Wu Xiaofeng quickly waved his hand. "I'll just say a few words and leave."

He made an excuse: "My car's still running."

"Congratulations—lovers finally get together. See, I was right back then: you two were bound to end up together."

Shi Wenli: "?"

He was completely confused.

He even thought carefully: when had Wu Xiaofeng ever said he and Xu Qinghe would end up together?

"You two have such similar tempers and work so well together. It wouldn't make sense if you didn't get together."

Hearing this, Shi Wenli understood. He wasn't talking about Xu Qinghe.

In Wu Xiaofeng's eyes, Xu Qinghe was worse than a demon child.

He remembered that Wu Xiaofeng had once said he and Yu Jianing were a good match.

"Who told you that I'm with Yu Jianing?"

Wu Xiaofeng: "Your classmates. They couldn't find you anywhere, so they called me. I couldn't figure out why, since you'd already gone public about having a partner, you didn't just say who it was. Now I get it—if Dean Jiang found out that Dean Liu set it up, he'd be jumping with rage at home."
