New Coast or London?
Before receiving another message from Zhou Ran, Ji Shuhe thought her suggestion was just a polite gesture. But ever since that day, Zhou Ran kept messaging her, sending inspiration and project plans that all hit the mark. From texts to voice calls, Zhou Ran would sigh about how she lacked a partner who truly got her, then subtly promote Nebula Pictures’ advantages. She was clearly determined to poach her back to China.
Of course, Ji Shuhe wasn’t unmoved. She had no real attachment to London. That country had been a cage trapping her since adolescence, filled with all her helpless regrets. If not for the concerns holding her back, she would never have chosen that city under the guise of career.
There was a scale in Ji Shuhe’s heart. On the New Coast side were the people she cared about and her most treasured memories: Wen Shaoyu, Ji Shulang, Grandma, Uncle Ji’s family, An Qing, and so on. Because it was crowded, it naturally sank. On the London side stood only two people: Xia Chun and Ji Xiangjiang. It was hard to imagine that this bitter couple could agree on anything, but in a way it made sense—they had always spared no effort in hurting their own daughter. Those two almost outweighed everyone on the New Coast side. But Zhou Ran’s appearance added a crucial weight to “New Coast,” stirring Ji Shuhe’s heart once more.
So one late night, Ji Shuhe stared at her computer screen for a long time, her cursor hovering over the send button multiple times before pulling away. Finally, she closed her eyes and pressed it. She had submitted a resume to Nebula Pictures through the standard recruitment process—under normal circumstances, she would get a reply within three days. She knew herself too well: if she weighed all pros and cons, she would only fall into endless indecision. So she seized this moment of emotional turmoil, acted recklessly, and forced herself to take a step forward.
Perhaps she didn’t need someone else’s reason to place the decisive weight on her future.
