Yuan Yuan is a person.
After Miao Shi was bound and sent to the Madwoman's Tower, Old Lady Miao entered the palace to plead for her daughter before the Emperor. Emperor Zhengshi, considering his wet nurse's advanced age, but also learning that Jiang Xuesui had used the Luan Talisman bestowed on her late mother by Empress Jingwen, found it inappropriate to intervene himself and instead had Empress Sun handle the matter.
Jiang Xuesui was summoned by Empress Sun. She entered Kunning Palace and prostrated herself before Empress Sun, who was seated on the phoenix throne in the main hall. Empress Sun said, "Grant a seat." After Jiang Xuesui sat down, Empress Sun gently conveyed Emperor Zhengshi's intentions to her.
Jiang Xuesui then recounted the events of that day in detail to Empress Sun. Empress Sun said solemnly, "Third Miss Wen has great ambition. This Miao Shi entering the Madwoman's Tower is her just deserts. Since you have invoked the Luan Talisman, you must use it effectively. This punishment is fair and just."
Empress Sun, originally sent to persuade on behalf of Emperor Zhengshi, was instead won over by Jiang Xuesui. After Jiang Xuesui left the palace, Empress Sun shared her views on Miao Shi's confinement with Emperor Zhengshi. Emperor Zhengshi also said Miao Shi deserved it, and instead sent much gold and silver to placate Old Lady Miao.
Although Miao Shi got her just deserts, Wen Yuan'ai's marriage was indeed ruined by Miao Shi and her daughter Wen Yuanhuan. The Grand Princess of Jin was worn down by her son's persistence, and Duke Xiangguo's Mansion reneged, unwilling to betroth Wen Yuan'ai to Zhao Xu. The Grand Princess finally relented and agreed to let Wen Yuanhuan enter the household. However, Wen Yuanhuan was younger than her elder sister Wen Yuan'ai, who was not yet married, so she could not marry either. For a time, Duke Xiangguo's Mansion could not find a suitable husband for Wen Yuan'ai. Wen Yuanhuan's marriage had to be postponed. Wen Yuanhuan fussed about anxiously every day, while Wen Yuan'ai remained calm and composed, wishing she could stay unmarried forever just to spite Wen Yuanhuan.
Jiang Xuesui moved back to her own home, feeling even more at ease than at Duke Xiangguo's Mansion. There were no restrictions whatsoever, and she didn't have to pay respects to elders. Every day she slept until the sun was high in the sky before getting up to wash.
