Upon learning that the matter had blown up, Mr. Densite's face darkened as he took the letter and headed to the boss's office, telling Jenny to fetch Cowens.
Jenny left the office and went to the editorial room to find Cowens. Along the way, she kept her eyes open. Both the secretarial office and the editorial department, even the monthly magazine next door, had heard about it, and people were staring and whispering about her.
Cowens was someone she had trained herself, handling the same work she used to do. Everyone in the magazine department knew that. If they said someone had been urged to plagiarize, they might as well say she did it.
Jenny found Cowens in the editorial room. He was being questioned by Mr. Alpha. Jenny pulled him aside.
After careful questioning, she finally learned who the author was.
