Chapter 51

It was raining in New York, sometimes heavy, sometimes light, pattering against the car walls. The wheels occasionally splashed through puddles on the road. These sounds were very clear inside the car.

Jenny stuffed the brown paper bag with the sandwich into her arms, folded her hands properly in front of her, and looked down at her boss's shoe tips and her umbrella, where water droplets slowly slid down. Water drops dripped from the edge of the dark cloth umbrella onto the spotless floor of the car, staining the wool felt carpet with a wet spot.

The man in front of her was dressed entirely in dark formal attire, appearing very serious. He greeted her calmly. "Good morning, good morning." Jenny quickly replied.

Zweit stared at her face, feeling that she was getting more and more nervous and scared, as if facing a monster. Her whole face was tense, not to mention smiling; he felt she was about to cry, and didn't know what was going on in her mind. He remembered that she had always been bold, for instance when she played tricks on Claude.
