Chapter 5 (2)

His face was huge, his double chin enormous, trembling as he spoke, making it hard to look at him.

He turned around and looked Huangfu Jun up and down. His eyes were also generously proportioned, slightly protruding.

“Aiya, aiya, so this is our heavenly descending special forces, Huangfu Jun, Miss Huangfu, right?”

He stepped forward, smiling, and extended his hand toward Huangfu Jun. “My surname is Ha, given name Mo. Although everyone calls me Vice President Ha, I prefer to be called Little President Mo~” Along with the undulating wave came a slightly bulging wink.

Huangfu Jun: ...

Huangfu Jun looked at that plump white little round hand, finding it difficult to stir her arm, which was already covered in goosebumps.

She gave an awkward smile, pulled out paper and pen from her bag, and used the pretext of writing to avoid the handshake.

Hamo suddenly seemed to remember something, smacked his head twice in annoyance. “Aiya, aiya, look at my brain. Director General Yao clearly explained Miss Huangfu's situation, yet I'm still so abrupt. Please don't mind, Miss Huangfu.”

Huangfu Jun pressed her lips into a smile and politely handed over the paper.

Hamo took the paper, smiled, and nodded. “No problem, I'll take you to your office right away.”

Huangfu Jun wrote more on another sticky note and handed it to Hamo.

Hamo looked at the note and laughed twice. “Miss Huangfu, don't rush. As the second-in-command of the Yaojing company branch, I, Little President Mo, am incredibly busy every day, running around like a top. The specific details will be explained by your team leader, Bai Lin.”

Huangfu Jun nodded, her smile sweet. She followed Hamo out of the vice president's office, walked through a long corridor, and finally arrived at the staff office door.

Huangfu Jun looked at the office doorplate and couldn't help but think of Bai Lin again.

Bai Lin was a team leader who went out on field missions. From what Hamo meant, this office housed Bai Lin's team members, so they were all staff who went out to catch demons?

She pushed the door open, and what appeared before her was an office as normal as could be. The office was partitioned into many small individual work areas, each desk with a computer, green plants, succulent potted plants, and thick stacks of documents.

But there were only two employees in the office. Sitting at the very back was an old man with a full head of white hair, a long white goatee, and thick black-rimmed glasses.

He was staring at the computer screen, holding up two fingers, slowly typing characters one by one.

The other was about forty years old, with a perm of tight curls, wearing a Chinese-style jacket embroidered with peonies, resting by the water cooler. She was holding a handful of melon seeds, leisurely picking them up and cracking them.

Hearing the noise, she turned to look at Huangfu Jun, a glimmer of surprise in her eyes.

Huangfu Jun smiled politely and nodded as a greeting.

Hamo scanned the room twice but didn't find the person he most wanted to see. “Captain Bai isn't here?”

The elder sister by the water cooler put down her melon seeds, wiped her mouth, and shook off the shells. “Vice President Ha, long time no see! What brings you here today?”

Hamo coughed dryly, covering his mouth, then smiled and introduced Huangfu Jun. “This is Sister Ying, one of our unit's talented people, very kind-hearted. Her full name is Ying Wu. She's excellent at data statistics. In the future, learn more about that kind of work from Sister Ying.”

Huangfu Jun smiled and waved at Ying Wu with the curly perm.

Ying Wu smiled back in greeting. “Heavens above, our office finally has a new person!” After saying that, she stopped smiling, walked back to her seat, and continued cracking melon seeds.

Hamo gave an awkward smile and turned his gaze to the back.

“Huangfu, this is our office veteran, Uncle Shan Yang. He's older and has seniority, so calling him uncle won't hurt you. In terms of company inter-department coordination procedures, you need to learn a lot from Uncle Shan.”

Huangfu Jun smiled politely, nodded, and waved in greeting.

Shan Yang, with his white beard, merely nodded slightly without saying a word.

Huangfu Jun didn't take it to heart. Compared to Gui Suishou, these two employees were far too normal—so normal that they didn't seem like demons at all. Except for the matching beard and goatee, no need to overthink—Uncle Shan Yang must be a goat spirit.

By that logic, could Ying Wu be a parrot?

Huangfu Jun couldn't help but take another look at Ying Wu.

“Miss Huangfu, Captain Bai should be back soon. Wait for him here,” Hamo said, then looked at Ying Wu. “Sister Ying, please show Miss Huangfu to her workstation!”

Without waiting for Ying Wu's reply, Hamo edged to the door and slipped out of the office in a flash, as if afraid of getting into more trouble.

Huangfu Jun's brow twitched slightly. Vice President Ha's sneaky demeanor made him seem guilty.

Ying Wu tossed the melon seed shells into the trash, turned, and walked toward Huangfu Jun, smiling. “Little sister Huangfu, right? From now on, you're one of us. Can Sister Ying call you A Jun? Ah Gui already told us about your situation. Not being able to speak is no problem; our work here is pretty leisurely, so it doesn't affect anything. Plus, the brothers and sisters in the office are all very good-tempered and will take care of you~”

Ying Wu chattered away as she walked up to Huangfu Jun, grabbed her arm, and enthusiastically led her toward an empty seat in the corner. “Perfect, there's always an empty spot in the office. It's yours from now on.”

Huangfu Jun smiled and nodded in thanks.

Just as Ying Wu led Huangfu Jun to the new workstation, the succulent plant on Ying Wu's desk suddenly flashed red.

Huangfu Jun raised an eyebrow in surprise. The Monster Bureau really was the Monster Bureau—even the potted plants were so distinctive.

Ying Wu's face fell, annoyed. She turned and walked back to her own workstation, pressed hard on a plump green succulent leaf, and a line of text projected into midair:

“Class A mission alert: Signs of demon revival detected at Yandu University in our city. Seventh Bureau to enter the site for investigation today, resolve the battle as soon as possible to prevent the demon from recovering its power and fleeing elsewhere, causing unnecessary losses.”

Huangfu Jun's brow immediately twitched.

Yandu University? Wasn't that her school?

Ying Wu also unconsciously repeated: “Yandu University?” She turned to look at Huangfu Jun and said with a smile, “A Jun, you came from human society, right? Class A missions are the easiest, perfect for a newbie like you to practice. What do you think? Want to go?”

Huangfu Jun naturally wanted to take this mission. But based on her years of work experience and Grandma's secrets, she could clearly see that Sister Ying Wu didn't have good intentions toward her.

[Hello?] Huangfu Jun tried actively calling the system in her brainwaves. [Bai Lin-gege, are you there?]

After a pause, an echo actually came back in her brainwaves. [You should address me as 'Lord Bai Lin,' or more concisely, 'My Lord.']

Huangfu Jun: "..."

She didn't want to use either. She offered a third option: [Captain Bai?]

Author's note: Huangfu Jun: What a thrilling day...
