Chapter 12

Bo Xin smiled. When had she ever comforted a child only to be comforted in return?

But thinking about it carefully, dealing with some matters was indeed troublesome.

The piano class was expensive for a reason—only four students per class, so each one could receive attention.

Since both children were brought by Bo Xin, the teacher thoughtfully assigned them to the same instructor for now.

But their levels were different. Ji Yanyi had been learning for a long time, and if he couldn't keep up, Bo Xin planned to later transfer Jiang Yuxu to another teacher.

So this lesson was mainly for observation.

Bo Xin patted the head of the child beside her and told him to go straight in.

The piano teacher, having heard that both were brought by Bo Xin, asked in a tone that was teasing yet probing, "So what's your relationship?"

Jiang Yuxu frowned seriously, glanced at the innocent-looking Ji Yanyi, and almost reluctantly said, "I guess we're brothers."

'Guess'? What did that mean? Normally, either they were brothers or they weren't.

The piano teacher was confused.

"Then who's the older brother and who's the younger?"

Jiang Yuxu didn't hesitate this time. "He's the younger brother."

"He's the younger brother."

At the same time, an identical sentence came from the other child.

They both paused, then looked at each other, showing rare stubbornness on this matter.

"I'm the older brother." *2

Jiang Yuxu looked at the other with a questioning gaze, as if wondering how someone like him could qualify as an older brother.

But Ji Yanyi had checked the files. If he remembered correctly, their mother gave birth late at night, past midnight.

That meant Jiang Yuxu's birthday was a day later than his, an undeniable fact in sibling relations.

Jiang Yuxu's expression turned cold. The piano teacher sensed that further questioning might lead to trouble and didn't pursue it.

"...Both of you, please sit down."

There were only four students. The teacher brought a stool for Jiang Yuxu and placed him at the back.

The piano lesson was dull and tedious. Ji Yanyi wasn't interested but had to grit his teeth and force himself to listen.

The notes on the scale came out one by one, and Ji Yanyi felt dizzy.

It was almost his turn to perform the new piece he had learned.

Usually, after learning for so long and mastering the scales, anyone who had listened to a few lessons could play decently.

But not him.

If it were a problem with his fingers, they were actually slender and long, a beautiful hand as the teacher had admitted.

He had once thought it must be inherited from their mother.

As it turned out, that was a misunderstanding.

He was Wen Qiang'an's next victim. He coughed twice to start, the sheet music in front of him, and he played at 0.5 speed. If he got anxious, he messed up completely.

Wen Qiang'an laughed openly from below, then put his arm around the person next to him.

In a voice that was quiet but not really quiet.

"Why is our class stuck with such a stupid student? Everyone else already knows how to do this, and we're still learning such basic pieces."

"Exactly, what a waste of our time and money."

They crossed their arms, united by their shared target of ridicule—Ji Yanyi—for once appearing especially cohesive.

Just earlier, they had been rolling their eyes when someone else played well.

Jiang Yuxu observed everyone's expressions from behind, unconsciously tapping his fingers, then gave a faint smile.

For some reason, it was probably because this was the first boy his age he had truly understood.

He was a bit like Li Qiang'an.

"Being stupid is relative. Haven't you ever wondered why you're in the same class as Ji Yanyi?"

He seemed to be insulting Ji Yanyi too, but Ji Yanyi was focused on playing and probably didn't notice the commotion.

Wen Qiang'an was annoyed. "What do you mean by that?"

"I mean stupidity is relative. You're better than Ji Yanyi, but what about others? As I walked here, the piano sounds from this room were the worst."

Wen Qiang'an got angry. It was true.

By this stage, others could already be top three in piano competitions, except for him.

But he only felt a sense of achievement when comparing himself to Ji Yanyi.

However, what did this have to do with Jiang Yuxu? He had just come to observe, meaning he probably learned what a piano was only moments ago.

What right did he have to say, 'As I walked here, the sounds from this room were the worst'?
