The car stopped downstairs. Bo Xiao opened the door for Bo Xin, then noticed the small figure behind her and opened the door for Jiang Yuxu as well.
Jiang Yuxu caught the slight pause.
He remembered she said she could drive too. He stopped on the steps. "If we all go out, what about the house? No adults will be home."
Bo Xin patted the seat beside her, signaling him to sit.
"Don't worry about that. He gets sleepy after eating carbs. He'll go back to sleep after breakfast."
Eat then sleep? Sleep then eat?
Jiang Yuxu couldn't imagine a child living like that.
He obediently sat beside her. "What are we buying at the mall?"
"Your room needs some things."
Ji Xingzhi dressed simply, lived plainly, and his few additions were just a pencil holder on the desk. So Jiang Yuxu's room needed to be completely redecorated, from necessities to personal preferences.
Jiang Yuxu fidgeted with his fingers. This was a completely unfamiliar area, but strangely, he wasn't scared.
"Then why didn't you tell me to come along?"
Bo Xin had her own plans. "Because I also want to buy a few things for myself."
She gently patted his cheek, remembering the conversation between the two kids at breakfast. "I could tell you weren't exactly against it."
Jiang Yuxu didn't know what to say, he just felt that.
"At least he's better than other kids."
Compared to Li Qiang'an, who was also a pampered child at home, Ji Yanyi was much better.
That was probably the purest thing he had ever seen.
Bo Xin ignored his slight resistance and pulled him into her arms.
As she said, she couldn't resist either kind of coaxing.
Bo Xiao watched the tender mother-son moment through the rearview mirror, feeling for a moment that he shouldn't be there.
The familiar sign was right above them. He slowed down, coughed twice, then reminded them, "The furniture market is here."
Jiang Yuxu was led out of the car, their fingers still interlocked.
Bo Xin explained, "You have to be careful outside. There are lots of bad people who kidnap children."
Jiang Yuxu had heard of that too, but in the village, they bought children.
For their unknown purposes, they would spend their entire fortunes to buy a child. Remembering the fate of those children, it was really similar to his past.
Jiang Yuxu tightened his grip on her fingers.
"Where are we going first?"
Bo Xin had her usual places. "Over here, we can buy desks and chairs for kids."
Jiang Yuxu didn't need those. "There are some in my room."
Bo Xin wasn't going to let him use those. "Use those hand-me-downs? Your legs would dangle off the edge?"
Jiang Yuxu had used mismatched furniture in the countryside; now that he was in the city, she wasn't going to let him use such things again.
Her own child deserved the best.
"...What about the old ones?"
Bo Xin had already arranged for a moving company. "When they come, we'll move them to the spare room."
Spare room?
Jiang Yuxu had only heard of not having enough rooms, never of having extra space.
It seemed the family was richer than he had imagined.
Bo Xin was a regular at this store. Her face was very recognizable; as soon as she stood there, someone came to attend to her.
She looked at Jiang Yuxu. "The star of the show today isn't me, it's him."
Jiang Yuxu pressed close to Bo Xin's leg, his gaze sweeping over without shrinking back. He stared straight at the salesperson, as if he really could make decisions.
Mei Hongying admired him for a while before asking, "Is this a relative's child?"
The 'original' Bo Xin hadn't wanted to bring Jiang Yuxu back because it was troublesome—she would have to explain his identity to everyone, and they would mock her for her past mistake and the years of effort and investment.
But this Bo Xin didn't care about that.
Jiang Yuxu's eyebrows resembled his father's, but his overall gentleness came from her; his face had naturally smooth lines.
Bo Xin touched half of his face. "No, he's my biological son."
Seeing Mei Jie's shocked expression, Bo Xin decided to mimic her, pulling the child in front of her with some force so she could get a good look.
"What? Doesn't he look like me?"
"...He does, of course he does."
But the key question was: when did she give birth? A ten-month pregnancy couldn't have gone unnoticed, and the child was already this big. What about Yanyi at home? Didn't he react at all?
