Chapter 2

002 Do I know you?

Zeng Keqin stepped back in shock and said softly, "Do I know you?"

The man clearly anticipated this reaction. He crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, sneering, "What? Trying to deny it?"

His tall figure and flashy appearance attracted glances from passersby.

Zeng Keqin didn't like being the center of attention. She lowered her head. "You must have mistaken me for someone else."

A light snort came from above.

Then a phone was shoved in front of her face.

"See for yourself."

On the screen was a photo.

A small face, clear black-and-white almond eyes, a shy smile—the image of a girl-next-door.

Zeng Keqin's breath caught.

Wasn't that her?

When had she taken such a photo?

No, that wasn't the point.

The point was, why did this person have her photo?

"Scroll down."

Zeng Keqin hesitated for a second, then swiped the screen.

The next picture was a screenshot of a chat history.

An account with the note "Baby" sent all sorts of affectionate messages.

'I miss you', 'Honey', 'Baby, do you like me?'... All kinds of mushy words flooded in.

Zeng Keqin's fair cheeks quickly flushed. Her finger froze in midair, afraid to scroll further, dreading to see even more explicit content.

"Continue."

The man urged coldly.

She bit her lip and forced herself to scroll down.

It turned out to be transfer records.

Small amounts of tens, large amounts in the tens of thousands, spanning nearly half a year.

There were also food delivery orders, screenshots of gift confirmations...

Zeng Keqin's mind buzzed. An absurd thought surfaced.

Someone had stolen her photos to catfish in online relationships!

She looked up abruptly: "That's not me."

Jiang Shiyu met Zeng Keqin's dark, clear almond eyes and frowned slightly.

Although those eyes were so innocent they didn't seem like a lie, his brother drowned his sorrows in drink every day, clutching his phone, muttering, 'Why won't she talk to me?'

Scammers were best at playing innocent.

"The evidence is right in front of you, and you still want to deny it?"

"Photos can be photoshopped, transfer records can be forged. Why should I believe your one-sided story?"

Jiang Shiyu's lips curled into a mocking smile: "So, you want to turn the tables?"

Zeng Keqin's mind raced, analyzing rationally: "I don't know your friend, I haven't received any of this money or gifts, and I haven't done anything illegal. There must be a misunderstanding."

Jiang Shiyu looked as if he'd heard the biggest joke. His eyes instantly darkened: "I'm being nice now. Don't refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit."

Zeng Keqin felt the pressure but didn't step back: "If you don't believe me, you can call the police and let them get to the truth."

"Fine, then let's go to the police station now."

"Not now."

Zeng Keqin glanced at her phone. There were less than ten minutes until her interview. She couldn't waste any more time.

Jiang Shiyu's eyes turned colder: "Guilty conscience?"

"My name is Zeng Keqin, a junior law student at J University. You can come find me at school!"

After gritting out these words, Zeng Keqin pushed him away. She hadn't run more than a few steps when her wrist was grabbed.

"No way. Who knows if you're lying!"

Zeng Keqin broke out in a cold sweat from anxiety. She quickly pulled out her phone, logged out of Alipay and WeChat, and shoved it into his arms.

"I'll leave my phone with you as collateral, okay?"

Jiang Shiyu looked at the phone shoved into his hands, stunned.

By the time he came to, the slender figure had slipped into the building like an eel, leaving only the sway of her ponytail.
