004 Like Sunset Woven into Her Hair
Zeng Keqin was about to grab her phone, but someone beat her to it.
"Give it to me!!"
Jiang Shiyu, using his height advantage, shook the phone. "Reason?"
She suppressed the anger inside and looked up to meet his eyes. "This interview is very important to me."
The light in the room was soft, illuminating Zeng Keqin's thick, seaweed-like hair with a natural sheen, making her palm-sized face look even fairer and more delicate, especially her round, deer-like eyes, which held a stubborn glint.
Jiang Shiyu looked away, picked up the latte on the table, took a sip, raised an eyebrow, and put down the phone. "Put it on speaker."
Zeng Keqin froze for a second, quickly answered, and pressed the speaker button.
"Hello, is this Ms. Zeng Keqin?"
"Yes."
"Hello, Ms. Zeng. I'm from HR at Bai Run'er. Congratulations on passing the first round. We'd like to invite you for a second interview next Monday. Please prepare..."
During the conversation, Jiang Shiyu picked up the sandwich and ate.
"Thank you."
Zeng Keqin politely ended the call, hung up, gripped the phone, and looked warily at the person across from her. "You heard that. I have another interview next week. I can't leave my phone with you."
Jiang Shiyu finished the last bite of his sandwich, wiped his hands slowly, then picked up the student ID from the table with his index and middle fingers. "Until I find out the truth, this is mine."
Before Zeng Keqin could respond, he stood up, walked to the counter to pay, pushed the door open, and left.
His tall, straight figure flashed past the floor-to-ceiling window on a skateboard, his dazzling blond hair flying in the sunlight, drawing many passersby to turn and look.
The skateboard slid a distance and stopped.
Jiang Shiyu looked back at the coffee shop's glass window.
The girl was still sitting in her seat, head down, hair falling on her shoulders, her whole body curled into a small ball.
He withdrew his gaze, stepped back onto the skateboard, and rubbed his thumb over the words 'Zeng Keqin' on the student ID.
Zeng Keqin glanced at the phone's battery.
30%
It had been at 50% when she gave it to him yesterday, meaning he hadn't touched it.
Zeng Keqin breathed a sigh of relief, unlocked the screen, quickly opened the photo album, found those two photos, and unhesitatingly deleted them.
A year ago, her cousin opened an online clothing store, designing JK uniforms and Hanfu herself, and insisted on her modeling. She strongly refused.
In the end, after her cousin's persistent coaxing, she agreed to a set of photos in twin ponytails and a JK skirt.
The poses and expressions were so embarrassing she wished she could crawl into a hole.
If her cousin hadn't sworn to blur her face, she would never have agreed.
Zeng Keqin put the phone in her canvas bag, took a sip of lemonade, and started thinking about something else: whether to go to the police.
If she did, the only evidence now was a few photos and screenshots. She didn't even know who the other party was. The police would at most take a statement and not immediately file a case. And she had the second interview next week. Bai Run'er was a dream destination for countless law students. She couldn't waste energy on a case with no short-term results.
But dragging it out felt like avoidance.
Most importantly, if the matter blew up, not only Bai Run'er but also the school would know. She would likely become the focus, pointed at by those who didn't know the truth. Overall, the disadvantages outweighed the benefits.
Better to deal with it after the interview.
In the following days, she practically lived in the library, reviewing the key points of criminal law and criminal procedure law, and organized the questions from the last interview into a document, reviewing them one by one.
"Are you wearing this to the interview tomorrow?"
Wang Chunyue walked over with a face mask on, patting her cheeks.
Zeng Keqin paused her ironing and asked softly, "Is there a problem?"
Wang Chunyue tilted her head and examined her. "As a design student, I think this outfit is a bit dull. I suggest changing the shirt to light blue, preferably high-count cotton, so it won't wrinkle easily."
Zeng Keqin glanced at her wardrobe. "But I don't have a light blue shirt."
"No problem. I have one. Worn only once, like new."
Wang Chunyue turned and took out a light blue shirt, handing it over.
Zeng Keqin looked at the neatly ironed shirt and instinctively raised her hand, but a scene flashed in her mind—
A teary-eyed girl questioned hysterically, "Why did you betray our friendship?"
She pulled her hand back as if burned. "No need. I can buy one myself."
Wang Chunyue quickly said, "Don't be shy. We're roommates."
Liu Ying snorted. "Can't you see? It's not shyness; she looks down on your clothes."
Wang Chunyue was taken aback. Her expression under the mask was unclear, but her voice dropped. "It's late now, not easy to buy. How about using it for now?"
She turned and placed the shirt on the bed.
Zeng Keqin's long lashes fluttered, and she whispered, "Thank you."
