Chapter 8 (6)

"All of you, inside!"

The officers pushed the group toward the mediation room. When it was Jiang Shiyu's turn, the officer frowned. "You again? Weren't you here last month?"

Jiang Shiyu didn't answer. He just raised his hand and pressed down his cap.

The officer sighed. "Didn't Lawyer Zhuang tell you last time not to..."

"I know."

Jiang Shiyu cut him off and sidestepped into the mediation room.

The door closed behind him, and the officer began a serious lecture. There weren't enough stools in the room, so he leaned against the wall, wiped the cut on his lip with the back of his hand, and rubbed off a streak of blood. The wound on his brow throbbed.

Damn, that hurt. Hope he didn't get disfigured.

Thinking about how pathetic he must look made him irritated. Unconsciously, his gaze drifted to the closed door.

What was she doing here? Accompanying a roommate to report a case?

"Hey, stop spacing out! I'm asking you—will you do it again?"

Jiang Shiyu pressed his lips together and, for once, cooperated. "No."

The hall fell quiet again.

Zeng Keqin clutched the hem of her shirt. She had clearly heard 'Lawyer Zhuang.'

Was it Zhuang Zhengyuan?

Her eyes fell on the closed door of the mediation room.

"Qinqin, should we wait for him after we're done here?" Wang Chunyue asked in a low voice.

Zeng Keqin remembered the fierce look in his eyes just now. She pressed her lips together. "No need. We're not that close."

The rest of the statement went smoothly.

After Fang Yu reviewed and signed it, the officer said, "We'll follow up on the case. We'll notify you of any progress. You can go home and wait for news."

"Thank you, Officer."

They walked to the entrance, but Wang Chunyue couldn't help asking again, "Are you really not going to check on him?"

Zeng Keqin stopped in her tracks. Too many questions needed answers—why was Jiang Shiyu here, and what was his relationship with that group?

Finally, she said, "You guys go ahead."
