Chapter 38: Wang Facai

Instructor Li escorted Chu Ran back to the dormitory building.

"Is there any update on the Chu family matter?" Chu Ran asked at the dormitory entrance.

Instructor Li scratched the back of his head and said awkwardly, "The people in charge of the investigation this time are too high-level. I can't get any news, but it seems they haven't been released yet."

At least Chu Zhenzhen hasn't returned to the First Training Institute for classes.

"Yeah, I just thought of it, so I asked."

Chu Ran pushed open the door to her room and found Jian sitting on the sofa, looking through a large stack of reports.

"What's this?" Chu Ran walked into the room and changed her clothes.

After carefully reading the last line of the report, Jian looked up and greeted Chu Ran with a smile. "You're back! I went for a medical checkup today. This is my report."

Chu Ran paused while reaching for a fruit, then asked casually, "Did you go to Dr. Sun for the checkup?"

"Yes," Jian said as she put the report into a bag. "Since I'm going to participate in the Spiritist Tournament preliminaries, I need a better understanding of my physical condition."

Chu Ran nodded. "How were the results?"

"Good. I can use a bit more spiritual power than before," Jian replied happily.

Chu Ran sat down and flopped onto the sofa. "The potion I drank today had Black Divine Wood in it. The taste was absolutely terrible. How did you manage to drink it before?"

"I've never drunk it before, but Dr. Sun's prescription today also includes this ingredient," Jian said, fidgeting with her fingers. After hesitating for a while, she leaned in. "Is it really that bad?"

Chu Ran nodded. "It smells like the socks of a sports student that haven't been washed for a month, mixed with fermented rotten vegetables."

Jian's face instantly turned pale. Just hearing the description made her want to vomit.

"Didn't Dr. Sun's previous prescriptions include Black Divine Wood? I remember Black Divine Wood enhances one's capacity for divine power, which suits your condition."

"I feel it's less that you can't use S-level spiritual power and more that your body can't withstand the divine power you summon."

"Dr. Sun explained this to me," Jian said. "I was born with a congenital deficiency, so it's not suitable to use divine-power-containing medicines during my physical development. After all, divine power affects not only the body but also the spiritual power."

"Over the years, Dr. Sun has actually been advising me to further refine my spiritual power, using qualitative changes in spiritual power to nourish the body. I think that being able to successfully invoke the gods using just basic creations might be partly due to this training."

Chu Ran nodded. "Dr. Sun is quite impressive. But I don't recall seeing him when I was little."

"Maybe because the Chu family has its own specially employed doctors, and Dr. Sun was a late bloomer. The Chu family probably wouldn't have invited him specifically," Jian patted Chu Ran's shoulder, thinking about her poisoning incident. "It was only after meeting Professor Hu that Dr. Sun achieved something."

"Then Professor Hu is considered Dr. Sun's mentor."

"Pretty much," Jian agreed. "Although Professor Hu never accepted Dr. Sun as his student, there is definitely a master-disciple bond."

Chu Ran checked the time. It was time for class, so she stood up and headed out. "But given your current condition, you could consult multiple doctors and experts. Maybe the collision of ideas could lead to a better plan."

Jian sat on the sofa and touched her nose. "Dr. Sun's plan should be the most suitable for me."

After all, over the years, only he had persisted, and he understood her condition best.

Chu Ran was about to close the door when she heard this. She turned back and said unhurriedly, "I think inviting experts for consultation might be even better for Dr. Sun. He could expand his network and learn from their experience."

Jian seemed thoughtful. That might be true.

"You can mention it to Dr. Sun. If he disagrees, there's no loss." Chu Ran said as she closed the door.

The moment the door closed, the smile faded from her face.

The original owner had her spiritual power damaged at birth. After she recovered her spiritual power, the medicine Dr. Sun provided was used to increase her divine power capacity.

As for the spiritual power she urgently needed to improve, Dr. Sun gave her a method that required persistence and had slim hope: continuously injecting spiritual power into Divine Stones and creating Creations to stimulate spiritual power growth.

Jian was the exact opposite.

Jian was born with a congenital physical deficiency and an excessively large spiritual power. But Dr. Sun didn't rush to use medicine or external forces to strengthen her body. Instead, he used an even slimmer hope method: letting her use refined spiritual power to nourish her body.

The two of them were like a controlled experiment.

And behind these treatment plans was Professor Hu's shadow.

Was it really a coincidence that she was sent to Anxin Hospital for treatment?

Analyzing the scattered information she had gathered, Chu Ran pushed open the door to the study room at the end of the corridor with one hand.

Inside stood a man who looked relatively young.

Upon seeing Chu Ran, he smiled, walked over, and extended his hand. "I'm Fortune Cat. You can also call me Wang Facai. I didn't expect we'd meet for the first time under such circumstances."

Chu Ran's pupils contracted slightly. She abruptly looked up and scrutinized the man before her.

Wang Facai was slender, wearing an expensive suit, with curly hair neatly combed back. His deep blue eyes exuded warmth.

Since he could come to teach her about Creation-making, he must have some status and position. But Chu Ran couldn't see any of the arrogance of a strong person or the timidness of a weak person in him.

He was too composed.

When Chu Ran sent the completed Basic Creation to Fortune Cat, she hadn't expected that the short sword would behave abnormally. So she hadn't made any attempt to conceal anything. Now she wasn't sure if Fortune Cat knew that the short sword which caused Jian's successful god invocation was made by her.

Thoughts raced through Chu Ran's mind, but her expression remained unchanged. Smiling, she shook Wang Facai's hand. "I have to thank you. If it weren't for you, I might have ended up on the streets."

"Haha, not at all. That kid Sun Zhi has several houses. If you really had nowhere to live, he would definitely give you one for free. Besides, you saved Chang He. Chang Han wouldn't stand by." Wang Facai let go.

Chu Ran was somewhat surprised. "You and Uncle Chang are good friends?"

Wang Facai rubbed the back of his head and replied, "We were roommates back in the day. Oh, right, the hotel where you met Chang He is mine."

This sentence stirred up extremely painful memories for Chu Ran. Vomit all over the floor, dirt twisted like a Picasso painting. It was less a hotel and more a real garbage dump.

"Didn't you ever consider hiring a cleaner for the hotel?" Chu Ran thought of Chang He's description of the boss when he was fleeing.

Damn unscrupulous boss.

She sized up Wang Facai from head to toe. Truly, you can't judge a book by its cover.

Seeing this, Wang Facai's face darkened. "That little brat Chang He must have badmouthed me, didn't he? I'm not stingy. It's just that if you clean up a place like the Garbage Dump too well, no one will come to stay."

"Besides, given how fast those guys wreck things, hiring one cleaner would be useless. Hiring too many would probably cost more than the room fees."

Chu Ran didn't want to comment on that. She even felt a sudden urge to go take a shower right then.

"After the first Zerg invasion, Chang Han almost beat me to death there," Wang Facai said, reminiscing about the past with a sigh. "But I really didn't expect that to happen. Otherwise, I would never have let Chang He work at the Garbage Dump."

Chu Ran said thoughtfully, "Since you could build a hotel in the Garbage Dump, what about the people from the Third Prison who came to the Garbage Dump a while ago..."

"Stop. I'm just an ordinary person. Don't try to pry any classified information from me," Wang Facai interrupted quickly.

Chu Ran's brow twitched slightly. This reaction said a lot.

Wang Facai also realized this. He coughed a few times and changed the subject. "It's getting late. Let's start today's lesson."

"I had someone bring the Creation-making equipment. First, make a basic creation in front of me."
