Chapter 15: Old Master Chu's Niece Obviously Didn't...

Old Master Chu's niece obviously didn't take the two instructors seriously. She charged at them emotionally, clawing at their faces.

"Enough!" a familiar, grating voice roared.

Chu Ran turned to see her degenerate father approaching with a dark expression. "Chu Yi, aren't you embarrassed enough?"

The two instructors discreetly withdrew their feet, which they had been about to extend.

Chu Yi's body had stiffened at first, but seeing it was Chu Heng, she secretly relaxed, then her anger flared even more. "Chu Heng, what right do you have to yell at me?! If it weren't for my mother, Uncle would have long since been kicked out of the military..."

"Shut up!" Chu Heng glared at his cousin darkly. "You've said that no less than a hundred times. Old Master is sick of it!"

At the mention of Old Master, Chu Yi swallowed the words she wanted to say. Though she made trouble relying on her connection to Old Master Chu, she never stepped over the line.

A flicker of disappointment flashed in Chu Heng's eyes, but he quickly returned to a blank expression. "The Chief Instructor has already explained the situation. He Sheng brought this on himself. The Chu Family will cover his medical expenses, but only if you stop this immediately!"

"What?" Chu Yi exploded like a firecracker, her voice piercing the sky. She pointed her long, sharp nails at Chu Heng's nose, as if wanting to poke a hole in it. "Chu Heng, say that again! What do you mean Sheng'er brought it on himself?! It was that bitch who was so bold as to injure my son!"

"Bitch?" Chu Heng laughed as if he'd heard a joke. "That girl is the only S-grade Spiritual Power in the Third Training Institute. Your son..."

"What about my son?" Chu Yi couldn't stand anyone saying a bad word about her son. Fuming, she continued, "My son's Spiritual Power level is just shy of D-grade, and you, a worthless cripple with no Spiritual Power, dare to look down on my son?! You really think you're the president of the Chu Family?"

"That position fell to you only because Big Brother and Third Brother didn't want it. If you hadn't been born into the Chu Family, you'd be begging for scraps like a dog!"

At these words, the surroundings fell silent.

The instructors couldn't help but step back.

The onlookers looked up at the sky and down at the ground, pretending they weren't there.

Damn, they knew Chu Heng couldn't compare to his older and younger brothers, but they hadn't expected his status in the Chu Family to be this low.

This woman was tearing her cousin's face off and stomping it into the ground.

Chu Ran barely managed to control her expression. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

She really didn't know much about the Chu Family.

Chu Heng was panting heavily, like an enraged bull. His hands were clenched, his shoulders trembling, and his eyes were like a demon crawling out of hell, ready to devour someone.

Chu Yi was startled by Chu Heng's expression. She felt a twinge of guilt. Though she looked down on her cousin from the bottom of her heart, saying such nasty things in public was completely disregarding the Chu Family's face.

"Fine, hurry up and contact that, that Professor Hu," Chu Yi said stiffly, trying to find a way out. "Wasn't she supposed to be extremely skilled? Sheng'er has never suffered in his life. He can't be left with scars."

"Chu Yi, do you think I'm your dog?" Chu Heng asked darkly.

Chu Yi frowned. This useless cousin just wouldn't let it go. Did he really think she was afraid of him?

But thinking of Old Master Chu, she forced herself to adjust her tone. "Second Brother, how could I... Ah!"

Her scream was cut short.

Chu Heng's right hand tightly gripped Chu Yi's neck.

He had wanted to do this for a long time—since the first day he was drenched with water, no, since that mocking laugh!

Chu Heng's eyes turned bloodshot, as if he had fallen into a trance.

Chu Yi frantically beat at Chu Heng's arm with both hands, her face turning blue. "Let... let go... of me..."

Chu Ran watched thoughtfully. Her degenerate father had quite the story behind him.

The two instructors frowned, about to step in, when a stern voice came from behind.

"Chu Heng, let go!"

Chu Ran glanced over. A handsome man in a suit was walking over quickly. Behind him followed two underlings and Dr. Sun, who looked utterly disgusted.

He looked about sixty to seventy percent like her degenerate father.

So this was the biological uncle she had never met.

Chu Zhi pulled Chu Heng away and coldly watched Chu Yi collapse to the ground, gasping for air as if she had just escaped death.

"Cousin, I believe I warned you to watch your mouth."

Chu Zhi stood against the light, looking down at Chu Yi. One hand was in his trouser pocket, the other slowly adjusted his tie.

"Jane is an S-grade Spiritual Power user, while your son is only an E-grade. If it weren't for Aunt's sake, your son would already be in the interrogation room. Understand?"

Chu Yi, who had been so unruly in front of Chu Heng, now didn't dare lift her head. Her voice was hoarse. "I... I understand."

"Good. I know you're a smart person, cousin. Smart people should realize that the best way for an E-grade Spiritual Power user to live is to keep their tail between their legs and not provoke anyone." Chu Zhi spoke slowly and deliberately, his gaze sweeping past Chu Ran on the edge of the crowd. His last words were laden with meaning.

Chu Ran noticed Chu Zhi's gaze and smiled faintly.

Chu Zhi sneered, then turned to Chu Heng. "Second Brother, you also need to learn to control your emotions. That's Father's only expectation of you."

Chu Heng regained his composure and followed Chu Zhi's gaze to Chu Ran.

He didn't say anything, but gave his brother a long, hard look before turning and walking away.

Chu Zhi narrowed his eyes. This second brother of his...

"Alright, you Chu Family people need to get out of here. Look how many people are stuck at the entrance," Dr. Sun said impatiently, as if they were treating this as a stage. "If you delay a single patient, you'll all be in the interrogation room."

Chu Zhi apologized politely. "It's my Chu Family's fault for not managing our people well. We'll leave now."

He looked at Chu Yi, who hastily grabbed her companion's hand to stand up and slunk away in her hovercar.

Chu Zhi glanced at Chu Ran again and said politely to Dr. Sun, "The child is young and ignorant. Sorry for the trouble."

Dr. Sun showed disgust. "Chu Zhi, stop putting on an act. Drive half an hour and you'll reach the Martyrs' Resting Place. If you have any shame, go act there."

Chu Zhi made no comment, got into the car driven by his subordinates, and left calmly.

The onlookers, having enjoyed the drama, strolled contentedly into the gate. Gossip was indeed good for health—their hearts, stomachs, heads... all felt much better.

Dr. Sun walked over to Chu Ran and sighed. "Sorry about that. I didn't expect this to happen."

"It's nothing." Chu Ran looked at Dr. Sun, sizing him up imperceptibly. "Is Jane still in surgery?"

"She's out of danger," Dr. Sun said, rubbing his face as he led Chu Ran toward the office. "This might actually be good for her. For years, her constitution prevented her from successfully summoning the gods. At least this time she's broken through."

"Constitution?"

"Yeah." Dr. Sun pressed a button, and the office door slid open with a whoosh. "She was born deficient. Not to mention summoning the gods, even three or four years ago, S-grade Spiritual Power was a burden to her."

"She stayed at the training institute all these years specifically for physical training. Who would have thought some clueless newbie would come looking for trouble? Well, the newbie got a short sword through the body. Serves him right."

Chu Ran looked at the bloodstained black short sword in a transparent bag on the table. The blade wasn't sharp enough due to the creator's ability.

...

Isn't this the one I sent to Fortune Cat?!

Chu Ran slowly turned to Dr. Sun. "Why are you keeping this short sword?"

"The divine power attribute detected from the short sword is higher than that of ordinary Basic Creations. The people at the research institute told us to keep it untouched. They'll come pick it up later," Dr. Sun said apologetically. "So I'm afraid I can't take you for the check-up today."

Chu Ran remained expressionless. "No problem. I'll leave the fruit here and head out then."

Dr. Sun wanted to say something more, but saw Chu Ran had already opened the door and left. He shook his head. "Still at the age where she cares about her family's attitude."

"The Chu Family is really a bunch of sanctimonious hypocrites." Dr. Sun took a sip of water, indignant.
