Chapter 11: "Alright, stop complaining,..." (2)

Bang!

The alloy bullet hit the rod and fell to the ground. Without pausing, Chu Ran swept her left leg at the opponent's lower body, simultaneously flipping her wrist to smash the other end of the rod into his temple.

First blood.

On the other side, Wang Ping'an's laser gun suddenly packed more punch, and its impact left the target frozen for a few seconds. Using that window, Wang Ping'an pulled out another gun and shot the man in the head.

"You're cheating with better gear, aren't you?!" the man cursed inwardly as he fell.

The remaining two were more cautious, quickly retreating to avoid close combat.

Bullets flew thick and fast, but Chu Ran and Wang Ping'an reacted like battle-hardened veterans, dodging when they could and blocking with their weapons when they couldn't. Neither took a fatal hit.

Within a minute, the last two lay dead on the ground.

Chu Ran retracted her rod and glanced at Man Er, who was trying to crawl away.

Man Er froze, looking up with a tearful plea. "It was..."

Before he could finish the second word, the black rod came down hard on his temple.

He stared, eyes wide, falling backward in disbelief.

Why wouldn't they let him finish?!

"Looks like you're pretty seasoned too," Wang Ping'an said with a sigh. "Never give your enemy a chance to turn things around."

He had thought she was a delicate flower in need of protection, but she was a fiercer queen than he was.

Chu Ran glanced at the two men Wang Ping'an had finished off, ignoring him. Instead, she looked thoughtfully at the Light Brains on the corpses' wrists.

"Their identities are probably fake too, right?"

"Of course! I was the one who made the fake IDs for those bastards!" Wang Ping'an said indignantly.

These guys acted like brothers when they needed him, but when they were short on cash, they saw him as a fat sheep to be fleeced.

He should have given them wanted-criminal IDs instead.

"And Man Er's?"

"Oh, no. He bought his from my rival. But that guy wasn't as lucky as me—he died in the Zerg invasion."

Man Er was an idiot for picking such lousy partners. Even if we hadn't killed him today, he'd have been taken out by some other gang eventually.

Thinking about it, dying today was actually pretty lucky for Man Er—at least he didn't have to ride a roller coaster of emotions.

Chu Ran nodded and decisively stepped forward to remove the Light Brains.

"Ah, this..." Wang Ping'an hesitated, wondering if he should get a share.

"These two bodies have wounds that are blackening and rotting," Chu Ran said suddenly.

Wang Ping'an quickly shut up. "Go ahead, go ahead."

Let these men rest in peace—no need to investigate the wounds further.
