Chapter 55: Focused

Time goes back to six hours earlier.

The aircraft didn't directly return to the God Summoning Society base but quietly landed in a mountain ditch two kilometers away.

Although the pilot and the two brothers didn't know the reason, they wisely remained silent, even though the mission deadline was approaching.

He Qiwu looked out the window at the scattered rubble on the ground.

A few minutes ago, she received a message from her trusted subordinate: everything was normal.

Nothing happened...

He Qiwu's eyes narrowed, and the corners of her mouth habitually lifted, making her look like a mannequin.

She pondered for a moment, then turned to look at Chu Ran, whose eyes were closed. "Before we abducted you, did you have any unexpected encounters?"

Chu Ran didn't move, as if still unconscious.

The pilot and the two brothers quietly turned their heads, their eyes flickering between the two, then exchanged glances.

She wasn't asking us, right?

If she was, this long silence would have been enough for her to blow our heads off.

So she was really asking the one on the ground?

To be honest, I hadn't even noticed she was awake.

The pilot finally couldn't help but join the wireless chat: When can we go back? Being late will mess things up; I'll have to accept punishment!

Chu Ran waited for a long time, but the enemy was too patient, so she had to open her eyes. "Isn't being abducted by you unexpected enough?"

"But it was too smooth," He Qiwu said, walking over and crouching down to seriously discuss with Chu Ran. "I feel like there's a trap."

He Qiwu recalled a pair of eyes filled with absurd and stubborn hatred. The emotions were rich, but there was a hint of dissonance.

As a manipulator, she was particularly sensitive to people's emotions, but she lacked inspiration about the source of that dissonance now.

He Qiwu looked at Chu Ran sincerely. "Can you give me some clues? I'm very particular about repaying favors."

Chu Ran felt a little speechless and sighed as she looked at her. "If I could be caught by you, it's obviously because I know even less than you. And you're asking me for clues?"

"Let me rephrase," He Qiwu persisted. "Do you think the Chu Zhenzhen you fought was really her? Was there anything unusual?"

"What do you mean?" Chu Ran frowned slightly.

He Qiwu thought for a moment and gave an example. "Do you think Chu Zhenzhen is the type to sacrifice her own life for revenge?"

If you lose your life, there's no chance to turn things around.

Chu Ran paused.

He Qiwu noticed and became slightly excited. "Did you remember something?"

Remember something?

I'd only met Chu Zhenzhen for the first time during the fight. What anomalies could I notice?

The original owner probably could, but she's dead.

Chu Ran's expression remained calm. "I think it's normal. Taking someone with you when you're about to die isn't a loss."

Compared to the original owner, Chu Zhenzhen had a happier childhood.

Because she had high talent.

An S-level Spiritual Power was enough to earn the affection of everyone around her.

But within a month, her parents were gone, classmates insulted her, relatives loathed her, her future was lost, and she had no one to take revenge on.

Who could accept that?

Moreover, the older sister who had never been in her eyes suddenly became a hero. The feeling of her heart being gnawed day and night by jealousy and hatred was so painful.

If she had to endure that kind of life year after year until the day she died, why not end her own life earlier?

He Qiwu was slightly disappointed. "You didn't notice anything at all?"

Chu Ran should be the one who knew Chu Zhenzhen best.

Could it really be that she was overthinking?

He Qiwu felt a trace of regret.

She didn't believe it, but she couldn't find a second person to verify now.

The pilot waited for a long time and, seeing that He Qiwu had no more questions, timidly stuck his head out from behind the seat, his voice pleading and cautious. "Um, can we go back now?"

He had already received five consecutive messages from the boss asking what was going on.

He Qiwu paused, looked up at him with a smile, and asked, "Are you asking me?"

The pilot snapped his head back. "We'll leave whenever you say."

Life is more important than anything.

He Qiwu chuckled softly, then looked at Chu Ran again, warning with a half-smile. "You're coming back with us. If you set a trap, you're only trapping yourself."

If you remain calm, I won't have a chance to escape.
