Chapter 30

Unfortunately, Lady Luck didn't favor Yu Wanwan this time. The three of them opened the blind boxes and ended up with six identical regular Luka Duck figures.

Holding the cloned Luka Ducks, Gu Enzhun couldn't help complaining, "I suddenly realize how hard it is to pull the hidden version. I bought ten last week and didn't get a single one."

Mi Xiaonai fumed, "I seriously suspect the store didn't even put any hidden ones in!"

Compared to her friends' complaints, Yu Wanwan wasn't too disappointed because of her earlier win. She raised both arms and hugged her two besties. "Alright, so we didn't get them. Next time I win big, I'll buy you more!"

After saying goodbye to her friends, Yu Wanwan went to a shop to buy a 6-inch cake to celebrate the first time in her life that her luck had turned on its own.

She returned home and placed the cake in the living room. After thinking for a moment, she sent a WeChat message to Zhang Jingxu: [Are you working late tonight?]

The message was barely sent when Zhang Jingxu immediately replied with a meme of Wen Ji laughing hysterically, captioned "I'm not working late tonight."

Yu Wanwan couldn't help laughing at the meme.

She suddenly realized again that since being with Zhang Jingxu, her once-empty little treasury had grown plump. From him scratching off a 1.25 million grand prize for her to her own scratch-off win today.

Turns out, being with a lucky person rubs off on you.

With that thought, Yu Wanwan gleefully rolled around on the sofa.

So when Zhang Jingxu came home, she rushed over like a loving wife, excitedly greeting him, "You're back!"

Seeing her in a good mood, Zhang Jingxu gave her a doting smile and asked casually, "Why so happy today? Won a prize?"

"Are you a genius? How did you guess?" Yu Wanwan covered her mouth excitedly. "I won 1,000 yuan on a scratch-off today!"

"Only 1,000 and you're this happy?"

"You don't understand," she said. "This is the first time in my life I won on my own. I even bought a cake to celebrate!"

Zhang Jingxu chuckled softly. "Then I wish you win 10,000 next time."

Yu Wanwan happily took the cake to the kitchen to cut it and share with him. She added, "But today's blind boxes didn't have the hidden version. If I'd gotten it, I'd be twice as happy."

"Blind boxes?" he asked. "What do they look like? I'll buy you two tomorrow."

"They're in my bag. Help yourself." Yu Wanwan carefully cut the cake, trying not to ruin its shape. "They're fluffy little ducks. Super popular online right now."

There was a brief silence in the living room, followed by Zhang Jingxu's puzzled voice, "This doesn't look like a duck."

"How could it not?" Yu Wanwan walked over with two slices of cake, only to freeze on the spot, horrified as if she'd seen a ghost.

Because what he was holding was the little whale-shaped adult toy she'd gotten from Mi Xiaonai.

How could she have forgotten about that!

As she was fretting, she heard him say, "And... it's not that fluffy either."

He pinched the little whale. It was made of liquid silicone and felt quite soft.

Yu Wanwan frowned, biting her lower lip so hard she was extremely embarrassed. Her face flushed bright red as if she was having an allergic reaction.

At that moment, she was immensely grateful she hadn't taken the new vibrator from her friend's shop, or else she'd never be able to show her face on Earth again.

She quickly walked over, placed the cake on the coffee table, and frantically tried to think of an explanation.

Zhang Jingxu was still examining the little thing. With a shake, a charging cable fell out of the box. He picked it up from the carpet, even more confused. "Why is there a charging cable?"

"Uh... well... you know..." Yu Wanwan opened her mouth, stammering for a long time, not knowing how to explain.

Seeing him start to read the instructions on the box, she shouted to get his attention and forced herself to explain, "You grabbed the wrong thing. That's not a blind box. It's a starry sky lamp I bought. You know, when you turn off the lights and plug it in, it projects whale and ocean patterns on the ceiling to help you sleep."

"Really?" Zhang Jingxu listened to her description and felt the little thing was quite magical. But no matter how he looked at it, he couldn't figure out how it projected.

After a moment, he looked up and said slowly, "Well... could you get one for me too? I haven't been sleeping well lately."

"Uh..." Yu Wanwan didn't expect that. Her brain froze, and she was torn.

If she refused, she'd seem stingy. If she agreed, it wasn't actually a starry sky lamp.

What to do? What to do?!

Her mind felt like mush, completely lost on how to handle this.

After careful thought, she said with a troubled expression, "Probably not. This was a gift from my friend, brought back from Japan. It's not available in China."

Zhang Jingxu didn't believe her. "But the writing on it is Chinese."

"Well... Japanese evolved from Chinese, so it's natural they look similar, right?" Finished with that, she didn't want to argue further. She directly grabbed the toy and its box from his hand, her tone a bit irritable. "Stop being so possessive of my stuff."

Hearing this, Zhang Jingxu looked bewildered, his voice tinged with grievance. "I just wanted one."

"What do you want? I told you it's from Japan and not available here. If you can't sleep, just take sleeping pills." With that, Yu Wanwan quickly took the little whale upstairs.

She closed the door and, feeling uneasy, locked it.

Looking at the item in her hand, her heart pounded with a mix of anxiety and relief. Thankfully, it looked like a decorative piece, and the packaging wasn't explicit. Zhang Jingxu probably didn't figure it out.

She carefully put it away, adjusted her emotions, and went downstairs.

But as soon as she reached the living room, she noticed the atmosphere was tense.

Zhang Jingxu sat on the sofa with a cold face, apparently angry that she refused to buy him the "starry sky lamp." He hadn't even touched the cake on the coffee table.

Yu Wanwan frowned. She had made a mistake earlier: calling it a starry sky lamp and adding sleep aid made him fixate on it.

She sat down beside him cautiously and tried to explain, "Um..."
