Chapter 8

"It seems President Lu's mind is completely not on the cooperation today." Zhang Jingxu no longer gave him a chance to catch his breath. He suddenly stood up and cast a final look down at him. "Since you have no sincerity, please leave."

"Zhang Jingxu." Lu Peizhi suddenly grew angry. At this moment, he had long forgotten the purpose of his visit and spoke fiercely to him: "So what if you're childhood sweethearts? So what if you're married? Yu Wanwan doesn't love you at all. She's with you just to escape from me. Don't think that just because you're married, I'll let go. I've never missed a target I set my sights on."

"She loves me or not, you don't get to decide." Zhang Jingxu stared at him intensely. The silent battle between the two men instantly spread through the living room.

After a few seconds, Zhang Jingxu warned: "Even if she doesn't love me, does that mean she loves you? Also, if you dare do anything to threaten my wife's personal safety, I will not hesitate to use legal means to protect my wife's legitimate rights."

Lu Peizhi: "..."

This originally harmonious business negotiation ended on a sour note because of a woman.

Yu Wanwan bought a bag of snacks at the convenience store, and finally walked back with a grilled sausage, her mood incredibly happy as she returned with a full load.

But her good mood lasted only a few minutes, because at the doorstep, Yu Wanwan ran into Lu Peizhi, who was just coming out of the villa.

The man's face looked particularly displeased. He was leaning against the car, holding an unlit cigarette in his mouth.

It seemed the cooperation had fallen through.

Just as he was about to press the lighter, his peripheral vision caught sight of Yu Wanwan returning. A strong sense of unwillingness surged in his heart. He casually tossed the cigarette in his mouth to the roadside and walked toward Yu Wanwan step by step.

Yu Wanwan instinctively wanted to dodge, but he directly blocked her path.

After their breakup, Yu Wanwan realized that not only was this man a scumbag, but he was also a complete paranoid.

Facing the man blocking her, Yu Wanwan was a bit flustered inside, but remained calm on the surface, even meeting his gaze proactively: "What do you want?"

The man's gaze was dark and fierce, staring at her without a word, making Yu Wanwan shudder. She directly brought up their recent bet: "You... you said that as long as I successfully get married this month, you'll never pester me again."

"I regret it." Lu Peizhi verbally tore up the bet from half a month ago, his eyes bloodshot. "I want you to divorce him immediately."

"You're crazy." Facing the man's unreasonable demand, Yu Wanwan cursed directly: "You were the one who proposed the bet, and now you're the one backing out. Are you even a gentleman with such fickleness?"

"I don't want to be a gentleman at all. I only want you, Wanwan." He stared at her for a few seconds, then his voice suddenly softened, with a coaxing tone: "I know I was in a bad mood toward you a while ago, but you don't need to marry someone casually just to spite me."

"I didn't just find someone randomly..."

"Don't lie to me." Lu Peizhi interrupted her. "He told me everything. Your marriage is just a deal to achieve something. Am I right?"

Yu Wanwan was stunned for a moment, then immediately realized there was something fishy.

Lu Peizhi's voice pleaded: "Wanwan, I've been repenting by your side for a year and a half, and you still won't forgive me? Do you have to torture me like this?"

Yu Wanwan sneered: "Lu Peizhi, don't you find what you're saying ridiculous? Why should I forgive you just because you repent? If that's the case, then if a murderer repents to the victim's family, should they be forgiven too?"

"That's completely different!"

"How is it different?" Yu Wanwan's voice was cold. "You and your white moonlight even 'created a life.' How can you expect me to accept you again?"

His voice was full of helplessness: "I told you, I had no prior knowledge of the child's matter. I'm a victim too."

"Then why, the moment you learned the truth, didn't you confess to me instead of choosing to deceive me? Also, you actually saw me as Yu Wan's substitute from the very beginning, right?"

"I didn't."

"You're still lying!" Yu Wanwan glared at him. "You called out 'Wan Wan' to me countless times in your dreams. I thought you were drunk and slurring your words. Thinking back now, I was so foolish to think you were calling for me."

She never imagined that one day the 'Wan Wan type' scenario would happen to her in real life.

"Wanwan." Lu Peizhi wanted to explain, but was cut off by Yu Wanwan's shout. "Don't call me that."

Her voice was frighteningly calm: "You're so glib now, but back then when I gave you a chance to explain, why didn't you explain? What, after a year and a half, you finally thought up an excuse? Too bad your excuse really doesn't hold water."

"Wanwan." Lu Peizhi was left speechless by Yu Wanwan's words. He called her name softly again, now as humble as a speck of dust. "I know I was wrong, but I really never saw you as anyone's substitute. You can not forgive me, you can punish me, but I beg you, don't just marry someone else so casually."

"Stop being so conceited. He and I didn't get married casually. We've had a secret relationship for a long time. I hope we can part on good terms. Besides, there are plenty of women in the world. You don't have to fixate on me."

Lu Peizhi's expression was pained, but his voice was firm: "There are many women in the world, but I only want you. I only want to be with you."

"Lu Peizhi." Seeing him determined to cling to her, Yu Wanwan pushed him away forcefully. "Stop being so conceited. I stopped loving you a long time ago. We're not the male and female leads in a novel. The moment you deceived me, the possibility of us ever getting back together was gone forever."

She added wearily: "Please don't try to harass me anymore."

With that, she ignored his attempts to cling to her and strode away.

Leaving the man alone, standing there in melancholy stupor.

Finally rid of that annoying ex, Yu Wanwan couldn't help but let out a long sigh of relief. Zhang Jingxu came over with car keys, and seeing her unusual expression, asked with concern: "Are you okay?"

Yu Wanwan's gaze was a bit dazed. She forced herself to look up casually and flashed him a smile: "I'm fine."

Zhang Jingxu paused, then said: "He's gone. Do you want to go to the supermarket now? Those three dishes take quite a bit of time to make."

"Sure," she replied calmly. "Wait for me a moment."

Saying that, she quickly went upstairs.

Yu Wanwan changed clothes and looked out from the balcony for a long time until she confirmed that the uninvited guest outside had left. Then she slowly went downstairs.

Zhang Jingxu was driving himself today. The two were silent along the way. After a long while, Yu Wanwan finally spoke, asking quietly: "Did he badmouth me just now?"

Zhang Jingxu seriously 'hmm'-ed in confirmation.

Yu Wanwan was furious, her voice grinding through gritted teeth: "I knew it! That jerk!"

After a thought, she asked again: "Did he also threaten you to divorce me?"

"Mm."
