Chapter 8 (2)

The angrier Yu Wanwan got, the more she organized a long string of words in her head, but in the end only asked him: "Then what do you think?"

Zhang Jingxu gave her a reassurance: "Don't worry. Since I agreed to marry you, I won't easily divorce you. Not a single word he said this afternoon will I believe."

Hearing his unwavering choice of her, Yu Wanwan was quite moved: "Really?"

"Really." Zhang Jingxu looked at her with burning eyes. "I'm still waiting for you to teach me the 'Love Manual.'"

Hearing his answer, Yu Wanwan finally felt at ease. She immediately assured him: "Don't worry, I'll teach you everything I know. I guarantee I'll make you the most dazzling guy in women's eyes!"

The two soon arrived at a mall in the city center. As they passed by a luxury store, a female salesperson inside recognized Yu Wanwan at a glance and strode out to greet her: "Miss Yu, long time no see! That bag you said you wanted last time just came in today. Would you like to come in and take a look?"

Faced with the saleswoman's enthusiasm, Yu Wanwan looked a bit embarrassed.

Because she hadn't worked for over a year and had always been spending lavishly, to avoid ending up penniless, Yu Wanwan gritted her teeth and last month put all her liquid assets into a fixed-term deposit, leaving herself only 50,000 yuan.

Unfortunately, she had recently used that 50,000 yuan to buy a few mutual funds. They had been performing well for the first few days, but before she realized it, the funds suddenly plummeted, and she was left with only 25,000 yuan from the 50,000.

By now, she was pretty much no different from a pauper.

Yu Wanwan glanced up at Zhang Jingxu, not wanting him to know she was broke. But triggered by the saleswoman's words, she suddenly had an itch for the bag.

After weighing it over, she decided to go in and feast her eyes, then slip away by saying she wasn't interested now.

The sales clerk quickly presented the bag to her with white gloves, showering her with flattery.

Yu Wanwan looked at the bag. She really liked it, but the nearly six-figure price tag was too daunting.

After having her fill visually, it was time to make a run. Yu Wanwan was about to refuse, but Zhang Jingxu suddenly said: "There's only this one left. If you like it, buy it."

As soon as he said that, he cut off any escape route. Seeing the saleswoman's expectant look, Yu Wanwan turned back and said quietly but angrily: "Who said I like it?"

He was deliberately making her lose face.

Zhang Jingxu asked: "Don't you like it?"

He clearly saw her acting like she couldn't bear to let go.

"I..." Yu Wanwan was momentarily speechless. It was wrong to say she liked it and wrong to say she didn't.

Just as she was regretting her impulsive entry into the store, the man seemed to see through her pretense. He took a bank card out of his pocket and politely said to the saleswoman: "Please wrap this up."

Seeing him suddenly pull out money, Yu Wanwan looked up sharply, confusion and doubt in her eyes.

Zhang Jingxu's voice was as gentle as a polite gentleman: "Since you like it so much, just buy it, so you won't keep thinking about it on the way. Consider it compensation for accidentally splashing you the other day."

Hearing such generous words, Yu Wanwan was instantly thrilled and even more grateful: "Really?"

"Mm." Zhang Jingxu's eyes were doting. He added, "See if there's anything else you want. I'll pay for it together."

Upon hearing this, Yu Wanwan excitedly thanked him: "Thank you! Good people have a safe life. You'll definitely be rich and noble in the future—no, you'll be even richer and more noble."

With that, her expression immediately turned from clouds to sunshine, and she happily went to the clothing section to pick out new season items.

This was the first time Zhang Jingxu had seen Yu Wanwan so 'down on her luck,' hesitating so long over buying an 80,000-yuan bag. For some reason, he felt a pang of sympathy.

It seemed she really had been having a hard time lately.

Yu Wanwan lost interest after only five minutes in the clothing section. The new season items at this store were both expensive and characteristically ugly. She didn't like any of them, so she ended up buying just one bottle of perfume and left.

As they walked out of the store, taking advantage of the empty surroundings, Zhang Jingxu suddenly asked her: "Are you having financial difficulties lately?"

"Uh..." Yu Wanwan hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly chose to confess: "There is a little bit of difficulty, but I've decided to start working again from today and earn money seriously, so you don't have to worry about me always spending your money."

"That's not what I meant," he explained. "I just wanted to say, if you're short on money, I have a shortcut to making money here. Do you want to give it a try?"
