Chapter 28 (3)

Odd, really odd.

The housekeeper asked gossipily: "Did you and the boss... have a fight last night?"

"No." Yu Wanwan explained. "He had a business dinner last night and got drunk, so he slept there."

"I see."

Fair enough. Who would want to sleep with a man reeking of alcohol?

With that, the housekeeper went into the kitchen to start working.

The noise of mixing dough in the kitchen woke Zhang Jingxu from his sleep. He sat up, and the blanket slipped off him. He pinched the soft corner of the blanket, a flash of subtle understanding in his eyes.

Seeing him awake, Yu Wanwu immediately became nervous. After all, last night they had done what only couples do under the guise of teaching. Now that both were sober, how were they supposed to face each other?

Zhang Jingxu's gaze slowly swept across the room, finally landing on Yu Wanwan at the door. His eyes held the confusion of a hangover, his brow slightly furrowed, as if he was trying to piece together memories of the night before.

Feeling guilty under his gaze, Yu Wanwan took the initiative to speak: "You... awake?"

Zhang Jingxu squinted, vigorously rubbing his temples. It was a while before he spoke, his voice slightly hoarse: "How... did I end up sleeping here last night?"

"You... got drunk, so you slept there." Yu Wanwan walked over, her heart in her throat, her voice feigning lightness: "Don't you remember?"

Zhang Jingxu rubbed the back of his head, his eyes full of confusion. "I think... I don't really remember."

He shook his head, the movement carrying genuine fatigue. But his gaze, as if inadvertently, lightly brushed over her slightly red lips, and he asked: "Did anything happen after we came back last night?"

But this seemingly casual glance made Yu Wanwan's heart lurch. She clenched her fingers and cautiously probed: "What happened... you don't remember?"

Zhang Jingxu seemed to have amnesia, his tone even carrying a hint of annoyance: "I don't remember, but I think I dreamed about you last night. Or maybe it wasn't a dream."

His words were ambiguous, like drunken talk, or like a test.

Alarms blared in Yu Wanwan's heart. She stared at his expression, trying to find signs of pretense, but only saw sincere confusion in his eyes and the haggardness of a hangover.

Only then did Yu Wanwan breathe a slight sigh of relief.

He probably really didn't remember.

A huge sense of relief washed over her. But beneath that relief, there seemed to be a small trace of disappointment she was unwilling to admit.

She lightly lifted the corners of her mouth and began to "pull the wool over his eyes": "Nothing happened last night. You came back, had a bowl of chicken soup, and fell asleep on the sofa."

"Really?" he asked, his tone sounding not entirely convinced.

"Really." Yu Wanwan said with utmost certainty, even adding a touch of righteous indignation: "Besides, you were so drunk last night you couldn't even make it to your room. Do you think anything could have happened under those circumstances?"

Zhang Jingxu lowered his head, a slight smile tugging at his lips in an angle she couldn't see, as if her reasoning had convinced him.

"True." He murmured in agreement. Suddenly, he pulled at his collar and sniffed it, then stood up. "My head hurts a bit. I'll go take a shower."

He stood up and walked toward the stairs. As he brushed past her, a familiar scent of her perfume slowly drifted into Yu Wanwan's nostrils.

It was the scent that had inevitably clung to him during their intimate entanglement last night—her scent.

Thinking of how he had deliberately pulled at his collar and sniffed it before going upstairs, Yu Wanwan stood frozen as if turned to stone.

She looked up and watched the man disappear around the corner of the stairs, with only one thought screaming in her mind:

This guy... did he really forget, or was he putting on an act for me?!

After breakfast, Zhang Jingxu went to work as usual. Yu Wanwan opened Douyin and began checking her video data as usual.

She opened her main account and found that the video she had worked hard to edit all day had, as expected, gone viral. The number of likes had already exceeded 6 million. Even the behind-the-scenes clips on her side account had impressive traffic.

[I really like this hot spring. I'm planning to go with my boyfriend in a few days.]

[@Bestie, how about skipping Tibet for our graduation trip and coming here to soak in the hot springs!]

[Who gets it? I feel like this hot spring is perfect for couples to "cook"!!! (lewd)]

[That hot spring pool, seriously, are you sure they didn't lose control and do it?]

[They already have a wet and dry separation, so they must have done it. (dog head)]

[Finally seeing my brother-in-law's true face! The blogger really is a looks-connoisseur!]

[Speaking of which, my brother-in-law's waist is so slim! Okay, after being hand-controlled, now I'm waist-controlled.]

[I suddenly realized that every time I scroll through short videos, I can't help but fall in love with other people's husbands.]

[That restaurant has such a nice atmosphere. I wonder if it's expensive.]
