Chapter 4: Partner

The beauty in the mirror changed expression, becoming very melancholy...

After eagerly finishing her plans, Di Yao subconsciously tugged at Wei Xunzhou's sleeve, intending to clean the house with him.

Wei Xunzhou lowered his gaze and once again silently pulled his clothes free from Di Yao's grasp.

Sensing her hand empty, Di Yao turned around. Seeing Wei Xunzhou deliberately avoiding her gaze, she unconsciously curled her fingers.

She noticed that Wei Xunzhou was intentionally avoiding contact with her and made a mental note of this.

It seemed that although they were married, their feelings were quite ordinary. She would need to be careful not to let anything slip.

Even though she wasn't sure if she could remember.

For example, pulling Wei Xunzhou's sleeve just now was completely subconscious.

"Then you..." Di Yao pointed to the side room, "you clean this room, and I'll clean the main hall."

Since she was afraid of exposing herself, it was better to separate to save trouble.

Wei Xunzhou nodded calmly. After taking a few steps, he turned his head to look at Di Yao's red figure.

Then he changed direction and followed Di Yao to the main hall.

Di Yao didn't know what Wei Xunzhou wanted to do, so she slowed her pace and stayed two steps behind him, observing his expression.

Wei Xunzhou walked unhurriedly, but after just a few steps, he had left Di Yao five paces behind. His face remained cold. However... he really had an elegant bearing.

Di Yao trotted a couple of steps, intending to catch up and ask Wei Xunzhou what he wanted to do. She took two steps up the stairs, but her stride was too large and she nearly tripped over her wedding dress. After barely steadying herself, she only caught sight of the corner of Wei Xunzhou's cold cloak.

Di Yao stopped and lightly tapped her head, reminding herself to be more reserved.

She brushed off her clothes and tidied her hair, then was about to enter the house when she bumped into Wei Xunzhou coming out.

Before Di Yao could react, Wei Xunzhou handed her a peach-red short-sleeved dress and skirt.

Di Yao's almond-shaped eyes went wide, full of disbelief.

"Change into this."

"Where did this come from?" Di Yao took the clothes and asked in surprise.

"I saw clothes in the wardrobe just now. They must have been... your clothes from when you were alive."

The wedding dress was heavy and stifling, and inconvenient to move in. Di Yao had wanted to change out of it for a while.

"So that's possible. That's pretty good." The color of this outfit was one Di Yao liked, and the fabric was light and breathable. She was very satisfied.

"Thank you, husband. Since the clothes from our life came with us, you should change too. I think your cloak is a bit thin. It's gloomy here, and the cold is heavy."

Her smile was vivid and bright, making even the dark Underworld seem a bit brighter.

She went into the room, changed clothes, and removed all the heavy jewelry at the dressing table, feeling much more relaxed.

Looking at her beautiful face in the bronze mirror, she couldn't help but think of Wei Xunzhou in casual clothes.

She had arrived in the Underworld wearing a wedding dress. Did that mean she died on her wedding day?

In other words, why did a perfectly fine bride die on her own wedding day? If she was murdered, who was the murderer? Could it be Wei Xunzhou? If she was indeed murdered, how great must the grudge be?

The beauty in the mirror changed expression, becoming very melancholy. Even though Di Yao didn't remember her past life, she still felt her guess was unlikely.

Then... could it be that she died by suicide because she didn't like Wei Xunzhou and would rather die than submit?

Impossible. She wouldn't commit suicide.

And what about Wei Xunzhou? When did he die? Before or after the wedding?

If Wei Xunzhou died before the wedding, wouldn't that mean she was buried alive for him? If after the wedding... was he murdered or did he kill himself? If suicide, did he do it out of love for her?

As she slowly unraveled the chaotic thoughts, the more she organized them, the more terrifying and confusing they became. All the different possibilities were tied to different extremes, and her feelings for Wei Xunzhou—whether love or hate—were also tied to these possibilities. If she chose wrong, Wei Xunzhou would surely become suspicious.

Di Yao had never felt so conflicted. It wasn't that she insisted on investigating the past like smoke and clouds, but it concerned her days in the Underworld from now on.

For now, besides being more cautious, she could only secretly test Wei Xunzhou's reactions.

After hiding all her thoughts, Di Yao left the room and saw that Wei Xunzhou had already changed out of his cloak and was cleaning the main hall.

She didn't know where he had found a dustpan, a feather duster, and other tools. First she was surprised, then she felt the depression in her chest dissipate.

Just now, she had been alone in the room, letting her imagination run wild. Not only had she come up with nothing, but she had also made herself miserable, guessing her relationship with Wei Xunzhou in absurd and exaggerated ways.

Look, Wei Xunzhou was busy tidying their little home. Didn't that show he wanted to live here peacefully with her?

For Di Yao, having a companion was already satisfying, no matter who it was. And although their current relationship wouldn't be completely severed from their past lives, it wouldn't last forever. They would each enter the next cycle of reincarnation sooner or later, so matters of the past were no longer important.

What mattered was that Wei Xunzhou didn't suspect anything, and that they looked out for each other and got through life together.

Wei Xunzhou wasn't very skilled at housework, and his overall bearing seemed out of place in this scene.

He had an air of nobility, with cold white skin and distinct finger bones. If he were holding a book or a brush, it would surely be pleasing to the eye.

Since meeting Wei Xunzhou here, his attitude had always been cold. In Di Yao's impression, he was a pampered young master. Now, seeing him roll up his sleeves to do chores, even sweeping the floor meticulously, the unease and anxiety in Di Yao's heart vanished in an instant. She even thought Wei Xunzhou was a delicate and gentle person.

She didn't want to dwell on things alone; it would only make her sick.

"Are you familiar with this place? How long have you been here?" At the end, Di Yao added, "Husband."

Wei Xunzhou straightened up, still holding the broom, the veins on the back of his hands bulging.
