Chapter 20

The developments after Captain Bai suddenly transformed matched what Bai Lin had said.

After devouring Bo Qi, Hei Zhe, now a black python, also swallowed the nine snake demons nearest to him before the other demons could react. His body swelled, half-erect, and he let out a long roar to the sky. Then he rampaged wildly back and forth in the confined space, crashing about like a madman.

Amid the sonic tremors, the terrified demons finally snapped out of their stupor and fled in all directions. Their panicked screams only enraged the already暴躁 python further. Following the screams, he devoured and crushed everything in his path. The cries and shrieks of all kinds of demons—great and small—filled the air.

The more he consumed, the larger his body grew. Like a bulldozer, he thundered through, knocking down and crushing large groups of demons. The newly built structures were smashed to pieces.

Ruins and severed limbs intermingled. Blood and flesh smeared everywhere as the python slithered. The fleeing demons, caught between great fear and the stench of blood, nearly fainted, but driven by a strong will to survive, they screamed and scrambled frantically, sometimes trying to throw others behind them to slow the python down.

Hei Zhe seemed to be constantly stimulated by something, becoming more and more frenzied, tearing and shredding every living thing that fell beside him.

Huangfu Jun was so horrified by the brutal scene that she almost dropped her phone.

Even though she was still inexperienced and had almost zero understanding of the various rules of this world, she still noticed several details of the disaster before her:

"Is the current Hei Zhe using the power of space-time distortion to resist the Supervision Bureau's Sevenfold Seven-Star Array?"

Bai Lin's expression also became extremely serious. "Hei Zhe is no longer Hei Zhe. Even if you combined ten thousand Hei Zhes, they wouldn't amount to one percent of this black python."

Huangfu Jun turned her gaze to Bai Lin, once again startled by the exaggerated number.

If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would have found it hard to connect the handsome, kind, helpful black-clad man with a beauty mole at the corner of his eye to the brutal and ferocious giant python before her.

"Why did Hei Zhe become like this? Do you mean he is no longer his original self? Is he possessed now? Even if he wanted to escape the construction site, wouldn't he choose a time when the Supervision Bureau sent the strongest Seven-Star Array? Even if he did escape, wouldn't the Monster Bureau and Supervision Bureau still catch up? He's huge and dangerous, so he'd definitely be a top priority. Even if he hid his form, with such a strong aura, it would be hard to escape their notice, right?"

"These are exactly my tasks." Bai Lin turned to look at Huangfu Jun, his gaze calm.

Huangfu Jun pressed her lips together.

This accident was indeed far more serious than she had imagined.

"Listen carefully. As you just saw, the current Hei Zhe is extremely violent and dangerous, with a very high degree of uncontrollability. To find out the cause of the mutation, we must capture him alive. During the process, do whatever I tell you to do. Don't leave my side, and don't ignore orders. Otherwise, if it affects our capture operation, you won't want to know the consequences."

"Okay, I'll follow all instructions!" Huangfu Jun, now aware of the stakes, didn't even refute Bai Lin's threatening tone.

Bai Lin looked at her solemn face, his expression somewhat复杂. He opened his mouth as if to say something more, but then the ground beneath them suddenly shook.

Huangfu Jun stumbled and nearly fell. Bai Lin quickly grabbed her arm, steadying her.

"What's going on?"

Then a noisy sound came from the jade pendant at her waist. Jin Hu's loud voice cut sharply through the noise: "Captain Bai! Captain Bai! Hei Zhe is back! He's charging at the Sevenfold Seven-Star Array again! Maybe what's empowering him is nothing else but the—"

Before he could finish, the pendant's signal abruptly cut off. The air fell silent, making one afraid to think whether it was due to the signal terminating or because the speaker had met with misfortune.

Bai Lin's expression changed. With a wave of his hand, a large hole was torn open in the roof of the pitch-black tunnel. Without waiting for Huangfu Jun to react, he grabbed her and flew straight out!

The speed was so fast that under the immense wind pressure, Huangfu Jun couldn't even open her eyes. She could only hold tightly to Bai Lin's arm, though the texture felt somewhat different from before.

She had no time to dwell on the differences; she felt like a kite being tugged through the air at high speed, flying up and down.

Just as she felt she might freeze to death and was about to risk opening her mouth to ask Bai Lin for a helmet, the wind suddenly seemed to be blocked by a shield.

She quickly opened her eyes and was nearly scared to death.

No wonder the texture felt different—the thing she was desperately gripping was not Bai Lin's hand at all, but a long dragon whisker, thick and radiating a soft silver glow, smooth and sleek. She hurriedly wrapped several more loops of the whisker around her hand, giving it a big wave by hand.

Looking downward, she saw that Bai Lin had turned into a white dragon!

Like the descriptions in myths, his long body was covered in shimmering silver scales like armor, reflecting dazzling light under the lamps. His huge dragon claws were faintly visible amid the clouds, and his nails gleamed coldly like sharp weapons, sending chills down one's spine.

Looking forward, his antlers were long, not as smooth as the scales, but with a frosted, rough texture, sparkling with silver bits. The hair on his head looked fluffy and soft, as if bathed in moonlight, clearly not lacking in lecithin and kidney energy.

As the wind blew, his bright, majestic eyes were revealed, with vertical pupils like rubies embedded within. Feeling the slight pain from his whiskers being tugged, he bared his teeth, and a misty breath sprayed from his nose, emitting an unhappy growl.

Huangfu Jun, not understanding why, wrapped another loop of whisker. She struggled to climb onto the dragon's body.

Why drag me like a kite? Why not let me ride on your back? Or like the super warriors in cartoons, stand on the dragon's head and grab the horns?

As she drifted passively, Huangfu Jun was full of complaints.

But Bai Lin, whose mind was not connected to hers, remained highly focused, circling and soaring above the massive construction site.

Just as Huangfu Jun felt she was about to turn into a kite spirit, he made a sharp turn and dove downward, his body stretched into a straight line like a giant glow stick.

Huangfu Jun held her breath and stiffened. Just as she thought they would crash into the ground, Bai Lin braked sharply at a height of two or three meters. Huangfu Jun still fell forward due to gravity, the whiskers wrapped around her wrist tightening and then snapping back. She uncontrollably slammed hard into the dragon's body, dazed and confused. As she was about to fall again, she desperately grabbed at the gaps between the scales, barely clinging on with hands and feet.

"Roar!" A pained dragon roar came from ahead, and a cloud of mist was angrily blown onto Huangfu Jun, making her clothes damp.

"What are you doing! Your snot got me wet!" Huangfu Jun, while struggling to wedge her feet further into the scales, shouted back angrily.

"Let go of my whiskers! Get off my scales!" Bai Lin's originally imposing and majestic image instantly collapsed. His voice came through, furious and exasperated.

"Put me on the ground first! Falling from two meters high could hurt me. If I twist my ankle, it'll delay work!"

"Let go first!"

"No! You land first!"

"Let go!"

"No!" As she spoke, she dug her fingers even harder into the scales.

Bai Lin was so angry his whiskers and eyes were shooting sparks. Finally, with a vigorous flick of his whiskers, Huangfu Jun tumbled to the ground dizzily, as if she had been spun in a washing machine.

Bai Lin quickly landed and turned back into human form, rubbing his cheek and glaring fiercely at Huangfu Jun.

Only then did he focus on the Supervision Bureau's barrier formation. There, many supervisors were collapsed on the ground. Only the seven half-demon supervisors without sunglasses, like Jin Hu earlier, had transformed into demonic beast forms and were flying in midair. They themselves stood on the backs of their half-demon phantom beasts, controlling them to confront the enemy!
