Handsome as he was, he had no gentlemanly manners at all.
Zeng Keqin kept her head down. Since entering the shop, countless eyes had fallen on her, prickling like needles. She wished she could disappear.
"When will you return my phone?"
"I told you: cash on delivery."
Zeng Keqin bit her lip. "Whether you believe it or not, that person really isn't me."
"Evidence?"
"I can't give it to you right now, but once I finish this busy period, I will."
"Ha, why should I trust you?"
Zeng Keqin pulled a card from her canvas bag and gritted her teeth. "This is my student ID."
Jiang Shiyu took it suspiciously and examined it.
Name: Zeng Keqin
Gender: Female
Faculty: Law School
Year of Enrollment: 2022
...
The photo showed a girl with a ponytail, her expression stiff—identical to the one across from him.
"Zeng Keqin..."
He read it aloud, his brows furrowing. "So, Qi Yu is a fake name?"
Zeng Keqin was taken aback. "I have always been just Zeng Keqin. I don't know any Qi Yu or your friend. I suspect someone used my photos for online dating fraud, and I'm a victim too."
The air froze for a few seconds.
Suddenly, applause sounded in her ears.
Jiang Shiyu clapped his hands. "Impressive. Typical law student—makes a solid argument."
He pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. "Hope you can still be so righteous when you see this."
Zeng Keqin opened it. It was a transfer IP inquiry, with the address clearly reading J University.
"There are so many students at J University. It could be someone who secretly took my photo."
"I only care about the evidence."
Zeng Keqin said calmly, "Since you can check the IP, you can also find the receiving account."
Jiang Shiyu leaned back in his chair and re-evaluated the woman across from him.
He had seen too many scammers.
When exposed, they either cried bitterly or hurled abuse. None of them calmly analyzed like she did.
Admiration he didn't notice flickered in his eyes. "Correct. The real-name authentication doesn't match you."
Zeng Keqin sighed in relief.
"But you could have used someone else's info, since the photo is indeed you."
Zeng Keqin frowned and retorted, "If the photo was really me, why would I use someone else's? Wouldn't that be shooting myself in the foot?"
"Some people just like the thrill."
Zeng Keqin almost choked. "So meeting you is part of the thrill?"
Jiang Shiyu slowly pulled an object from his pocket and waved it. "Maybe there's something incriminating in here?"
It was her phone.
Zeng Keqin lunged out. "Give it back!"
Jiang Shiyu dodged. "You gave it to me willingly."
"Because I had an important interview then."
Jiang Shiyu curled a meaningful smile, his red lips parting slightly. "Bai Run'er?"
Zeng Keqin's outstretched hand froze. Her pupils contracted. "How do you know?"
Seeing her so nervous, Jiang Shiyu knew he had guessed right. His attitude grew even more arrogant. "If Bai Run'er finds out they interviewed a scammer, that'd be fun."
A flame kindled in her heart. She hadn't been this angry in a long time. She ground out through clenched teeth, "What exactly do you want?"
Jiang Shiyu didn't answer, just raised an eyebrow.
Then the waiter's voice cut in.
"Your mocha and sandwich, sir. And lemonade for you, miss—compliments of the house."
"Thanks."
"You're welcome."
