The waiter glanced at Zeng Keqin.
Her round almond eyes were rimmed red from anger. She looked on the verge of tears but stubbornly pressed her lips together.
Her grievance was heartbreaking.
"If you need anything, feel free to call us."
The waiter kindly reminded, casting a warning look at Jiang Shiyu before leaving.
Though the pairing of a good girl and a bad boy was tempting, she shouldn't be bullied too much.
Zeng Keqin picked up her glass and took a sip. Setting it down, she stared at the ripples on the water and suddenly calmed down. She asked back, "Do you think a scammer, after being exposed, would calmly reason with you like I am?"
Jiang Shiyu raised an eyebrow, tapping his fingers on the table, signaling her to continue.
"Even though you have my photo, the real-name info for the receiving account doesn't match me, so it's not conclusive evidence. Also, if you're so sure I'm a scammer, why didn't you just call the police instead of agreeing to meet?"
His tapping hand paused.
"Because you're not sure either..."
Her clear eyes met his dark ones. "That's why you wanted to test me through this conversation."
Zeng Keqin straightened her back, trying to look more imposing. "Even if you take those screenshots to Bai Run'er, they'll just think you're being unreasonable. Lawyers value substantive evidence, and what you have doesn't clearly point to me."
Jiang Shiyu narrowed his eyes, as if redefining the girl before him.
He had indeed been testing her, from the moment he agreed to meet her until now. She was more composed and smarter than he had imagined. But thinking of his brother still lying in the hospital, he suppressed the wavering in his heart.
"Are you done?"
"I'm done."
Jiang Shiyu's cold, sharp eyes glinted. "But have you considered that I didn't call the police, not because of insufficient evidence?"
Zeng Keqin frowned.
"Because calling the police is too slow—need to file a case, investigate, wait for the prosecution to approve arrest."
He leaned forward, his tall frame casting a shadow. His magnetic voice echoed in her ear. "So I want to catch you myself... this Little Quail."
Zeng Keqin frowned and turned away to avoid his proximity. "Since you won't call the police, I'll do it for you."
As soon as she finished, the phone on the table suddenly vibrated, displaying three words on the screen—
【Bai Run'er】
Author's note:
Jiang Shiyu: "Little Quail."
Zeng Keqin: "You're the quail! Your whole family are quails!"
