Chapter 7

007 What Kind of Person Is Jiang Shiyu?

Jiang Shiyu's dazzling red hair took on a pinkish-purple hue under the library lights, making his skin look almost translucent. Strands of hair fell over his forehead, suppressing the aggression in his eyes, and his whole demeanor radiated a coldness that warned others to keep away.

His aggressive arrival immediately drew the attention of nearby students, some of whom even pulled out their phones.

Zeng Keqin, who hated being the center of attention, felt the gazes prickling her skin like needles, making her restless and uncomfortable.

"You... what are you doing here?"

Jiang Shiyu glanced at her reddened ears, pulled out a nearby chair, and sat down with a careless sprawl, stretching his long legs out as if the library belonged to him.

"Do I need to report to you just to come here?"

Zeng Keqin bit her lip and lowered her voice. "This is a place for studying. Can you keep it down?"

"Oh?"

Jiang Shiyu raised an eyebrow. He picked up a book from the desk, his well-defined fingers flipping through the pages rapidly, producing a rustling sound that was especially jarring in the quiet library.

A nearby bespectacled male student finally couldn't hold back. "Excuse me, if you want to chat, could you take it outside..."

Jiang Shiyu shot him a cold glance, the five ear studs on his right ear bone glinting with a harsh light. The other student's voice immediately dropped, and he looked down reluctantly.

Zeng Keqin didn't want to disturb others because of herself, so she stood up. "Let's talk outside."

Jiang Shiyu, however, showed no sign of getting up. He continued flipping the pages.

"You hang up on me and walk away whenever you feel like it..." He raised his eyes. "Don't overestimate yourself."

Zeng Keqin stood there awkwardly, struggling to suppress the anger inside. She couldn't argue with someone like him—it would only lower herself.

"If you're upset about me hanging up on you, I can apologize. But I'm not obligated to put up with your bad temper."

With that, she closed her laptop, slung her canvas bag over her shoulder, and walked out of the library.

Jiang Shiyu remained seated.

His page-flipping slowed down and eventually stopped.

*

The late May sun felt warm on her skin, but it couldn't soothe the anger in her heart.

Zeng Keqin walked back to the dormitory in a sour mood. Not only had today's plans been completely disrupted, but her mood had also been ruined.

Just as she was trying to banish that annoying face from her mind, a loud rumble of thunder suddenly echoed overhead.

She looked up. The clear blue sky had turned overcast without warning.

Could her luck really be this bad?

No sooner had she complained than raindrops the size of beans began to fall, stinging her face. Pedestrians who had been strolling leisurely suddenly ran for cover, scattering like ants on a hot pan.

Zeng Keqin's first instinct was to hug her canvas bag to her chest—inside were her laptop and notes, which absolutely couldn't get wet. She ducked and dashed into a convenience store by the street.

"Welcome," the clerk greeted politely.

Zeng Keqin wiped the rain from her face with a tissue. Even though she had run quickly, half of her clothes were still soaked.

"I'd like to buy an umbrella."

"One umbrella."

Another voice spoke up at the same time—low and familiar.

Zeng Keqin turned around.

Jiang Shiyu stood at the door, looking no better off. His red hair was plastered wetly against his face, his bangs drooping over his eyebrows, rainwater streaming down his cheeks and dripping onto his black motorcycle jacket. He had lost his earlier arrogance and looked somewhat disheveled.

The cashier looked at them apologetically. "Sorry, there's only one umbrella left."

Zeng Keqin opened her mouth, ready to argue over who should get the umbrella, but a faint voice reached her ears—

"Give it to her."

Jiang Shiyu turned and walked toward the shelf section, grabbing a bottle of water and a dry towel.

Zeng Keqin didn't refuse. She simply asked the cashier, "How much?"

"Twenty."

She scanned the QR code to pay, picked up the umbrella, and walked to the door.

The rain was getting heavier outside, pouring down like a waterfall. Even with an umbrella, she would still get soaked. Zeng Keqin decided to wait at the door until the rain lightened up before heading back.

Another person joined her.

Jiang Shiyu unscrewed the water bottle, took a few sips, and glanced at her from the corner of his eye. "If you're not using the umbrella, you can give it to me."

Zeng Keqin was still angry and ignored him.

Jiang Shiyu turned his head.

The rain had drenched her long hair, the ends clinging to the side of her neck. Droplets of water trickled down her neck, and her white shirt was plastered against her body, outlining a clear silhouette...

He abruptly averted his gaze, screwed the cap back on, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Are you looking into gaming scams?"

Just now in the library, the material he had picked up at random was filled with past cases of gaming scams.
