Chapter 2

"I…" Faced with his question, Yu Wanwan looked a bit guilty. Not wanting to tell him she was on a blind date, she simply lied, "I was shopping with a friend on the street."

He asked again, "Then why didn't your friend take you home?"

"He…" Yu Wanwan blinked, the lie still readily available: "He suddenly got meningitis halfway through shopping and was just taken away by an ambulance, so he couldn't see me off."

"Then didn't you go to the hospital to take care of him?"

"I…" Annoyed by his questioning, she turned to glare at him, "Hey, what business is it of yours? Why are you asking so many questions!"

Seeing her unwilling to answer, Zhang Jing immediately fell silent.

The carriage fell into a brief silence. Realizing she had been rude, Yu Wanwan casually changed the subject, "Um… when did you get back?"

"Last week."

"Then… are you leaving again?"

"No."

"Oh…"

Yu Wanwan felt she had killed the conversation, but luckily they soon arrived at her destination.

She grabbed her bag and said quietly, "Um, thanks for sending me home tonight. I'll be off now."

With that, she was about to open the car door when Zhang Jingxu suddenly called out from behind, "Aren't you going to invite me in for a cup of tea?"

"Uh…" Yu Wanwan froze. To be honest, she didn't want to invite him in for tea.

She guessed that the three people at home were currently waiting in the living room for a report on her blind date. If she invited him in for tea now, wouldn't it expose the fact that she had gone on a blind date tonight and sent her date to the hospital again?!

Absolutely not.

After thinking for a moment, Yu Wanwan stiffly turned her head, putting on a forced smile, "Look how heavy the rain is outside. You should go home first, okay? Next time we meet, I'll definitely treat you to tea."

Finished, she immediately opened the car door, held her beloved limited-edition bag over her head, and quickly dashed into the rain.

"Umbrella…" Zhang Jingxu reopened the car door, watching the woman who didn't look back, his mind full of thoughts.

Only after seeing her enter the villa did he close the door and lean back against the leather seat: "Drive."

Yu Wanwan returned to the living room, completely drenched. She let out a long breath and weakly called out, "I'm home."

"Wanwan is back." Her mother, Xu Xiangsi, hearing the sound, quickly came over from the living room. Seeing Yu Wanwan's disheveled state, she looked puzzled, "Why are you all wet? Did you come back in the rain?"

Her father, Yu Pingsheng, immediately asked the most critical question, "How did the blind date go tonight? Did it work out?"

Just as Yu Wanwan was about to answer, Yu Suisui poured cold water on everyone, "Look at her coming back soaked through. Does it look like it worked out?"

Indeed, who knows me better than my elder sister?

She slowly walked over to the dining table and sat down, speaking pitifully, "Dad, Mom, did you save any dinner for me? I'm so hungry."

Hearing this, the family nanny quickly went to the kitchen to heat up a bowl of chicken soup for her.

Seeing her daughter's state, Xu Xiangsi had too many questions to ask. She sat down on the chair next to Yu Wanwan and asked, "Weren't you supposed to have French cuisine with Shen Yu? How could you be hungry?"

"Don't even mention it." Yu Wanwan took a sip of soup and grabbed a chicken leg, devouring it, "We'd just had one main course, and I hadn't even eaten much when he suddenly confessed to me."

"And then?" Yu Pingsheng frowned, looking anxious.

"And then…" Yu Wanwan glanced at her family gathered around, put on a pitiful expression, and continued, "I don't know what happened, but the crystal chandelier in the restaurant suddenly crashed down with a bang, and then…"

Her voice grew softer as she spoke.

Yu Pingsheng's brow was now deeply furrowed, his voice tinged with helplessness, "Did you send another one to the hospital?"

"What do you mean by 'I sent him'?" Yu Wanwan couldn't help but defend herself, "That was the restaurant's fault! And he was just unlucky. Who told him to choose a seat right under the chandelier? If it wasn't him, who else would it hit?"

Xu Xiangsi asked, "So how is that young man Shen doing? Was the injury serious?"

"I don't know." Yu Wanwan chewed the chicken, her voice a bit muffled, "I wanted to go with him to the hospital, but he absolutely refused. He said if I got on the ambulance, he might not even make it to the hospital before kicking the bucket."

Speaking of this, Yu Wanwan couldn't help but complain to her family about Shen Yu, "I have to say, that guy really is something. His face changes faster than a chameleon. One second he was holding my hand with tender feelings, saying he wanted to marry me. Then after being hit by that chandelier, seeing me about to get on the ambulance with him, he was so scared he sat up from the stretcher like a zombie. He looked at me like I was the plague. I wonder if his brain got damaged."

Yu Suisui was a bit speechless, "You still have the nerve to talk about him? Do you know that in just the first 7 days of this month, you've already sent five blind dates to the hospital? Are you determined to send every one of Dad's good friends' sons to the hospital before you're satisfied?"

"But I didn't mean to! I don't want to be this unlucky either!"

Yu Wanwan said grumpily, then glanced at her dejected father. Her eyes twinkled as she suddenly leaned in, "Dad, I think next time you should stop introducing me to your good friends' sons, to avoid them falling out with you. If you still want to introduce someone, why not introduce me to your business rivals' sons? I'll help you send them to their doom!"

Yu Pingsheng choked on his breath, pointing at her, finally only letting out a long sigh, "You… sigh!"

Seeing her father sigh in defeat, Yu Suisui nudged her clueless younger sister, "Dad's already annoyed enough, and you still make jokes."

"Then what should we do?" Looking at the hopeful gazes that had turned as wilted as frostbitten eggplants upon learning of her failed blind date, Yu Wanwan immediately grew unhappy. She tossed the cleanly gnawed chicken bone into the bowl, stood up, and said, "I didn't want to go on blind dates, but you forced me. I went, and I ended up sending someone to the hospital, and now you blame me. You all know I have that cursed, husband-killing constitution. No matter what I do, it's wrong. I might as well just go die."

With that, Yu Wanwan glanced at everyone again, turned around, and angrily went upstairs.

After charging her phone, Yu Wanwan went into the bathroom and meticulously took a hot shower. Then she threw herself into the warm bed.

She unplugged her charged phone, turned it on, opened WeChat, and immediately saw a greeting from her best friend.

Gu Enzhun: [How was the French dinner with Shen Yu tonight?]

Yu Wanwan stared at the message for a long time, then started typing: [Not good. He's unlucky number five this month that I sent to the hospital.]

Gu Enzhun on the other end seemed a bit speechless. It took a long time before she replied again: [What are you going to do? You're not really going to end up marrying Lu Peizhi, are you?]
